Anyone heard from Deaconess about summer start admissions?

Nursing Students Online Learning

I just wanted to see if anyone has heard from Deaconess regarding whether they were accepted or not for summer? I put my application in back in February and was told I would know something on Friday, April 1. I emailed the admissions rep, but still haven't heard anything. Anyone else in the same boat?

Thanks!

Congrats Kelly!!!!

Hope to run into you at validation this Fall...

Thanks Cheri! I hope to meet you too! I'm sure I will be asking you for advice in the future. You were so kind to answer my questions when I was just thinking about the program.

Kelly:)

Yeah! Congrats! I hope we meet this summer:)

I look forward to meeting you too, maybe we can work on our "happy dance" steps together!

Hey All,

I just got a call from Deaconess and "I got in"

Like I said, they just called me. Please let me know if you hear from them.

I'm going to do a "happy dance" now.

I hope to see you all this summer!

Congratulations! It's wonderful that you were accepted. I have been reading your posts and hoping things worked out and they did.

Good Luck

I forgot to mention that when I called yesterday I asked again about the FAll start and mentioned that I knew of someone who started last fall. I was told that they used to have a fall start but were no longer offering it because of clinical saturation. However, when she spoke of the clinical saturation I remember her saying something about St. Louis, so maybe the program isn't available to those in STL...I don't know. If you speak with them again it might be worth asking about since each of us seem to get a slightly different answer each time! It would be wonderful if we were all accepted and could sit back and laugh about this, at the very least we have already developed a support system with each other.

Kelly:)

Hey Kelly,

Just a thought. In St. Louis there may be clinical saturation because the ONLY hospital that will take the online students from DCN is Forest Park. BJC, St. Mary's, etc, will not take DCN students because no onsite instructor is provided for those students. Also, and this is going to make some of you angry I know, and I apologize, but a great number of nurses I know have a very poor opinion about that program (these are nurses in St. Louis). The TRADITIONAL program at DCN has a great rep, but the online program does not.

Best of luck with whatever you do. Nursing is an incredible field, and I applaud all who choose it.

Have you looked into the Weekend and Evening Program at Maryville University? I have heard so many good things about that program. Maryville is another option for full-time working adults. I have an appointment to meet with a counselor there to discuss the program.

Shelly,

It is an excellent program with a great reputation. Go for it!!! You know BarnesJewish College of Nursing has an evening / weekend program, too.

Best of luck!!!

Nadja & Kelly,

Just wanted to let you know that my entire class is scheduled to do our clinical evaluations at St. John's Mercy Medical Center the last weekend in April. So apparently there have been many changes and improvements to the program since Nadja was attending.

congratulations to those that made the program for the next term I unfortunately didn't make it. What is more disappointing is when I called on the 15th the response I got back was they were still evaluating and and would get back to me around the 18th, it is two days later and I heard nothing, knowone has responded on this site either since Friday so I don't really know what is going on. I don't know why I wasn't accepted or if I should apply again or when to apply. Some one from this site emailed me just the other day and said they don't accept anyone from the Northwest states(which is where I am from):crying2: I sure would like to know if that was the truth or not. If there is anyone else out there that is still waiting for a call or a reply drop me a line. Or if anyone has any suggest or what I should do I really want to attend Deacones but I feel I am between a rock and a hard spot right now. :crying2:

thanks

Some of us were just in your shoes last week, so we know how you feel.

Did you look into a place to do your clinicals yet? That (in my opinion) seems to be the deciding factor on whether or not you get accepted. I don't think it has anything to do with where you live (there is someone on this site that has applied from Germany).

If you haven't started looking for a clinical site, start now and tell Deaconess if you find a site right away. You can also call Deaconess and talk to their clinical liason to see if there might already be a contract for clinicals somewhere near you.

Please don't get worried each time Deaconess changes "the date" when you should hear something. I applied on February 22 and was told I would know something on March 19. March 19 came and went and when I called them I was told it would be April 1 now. On April 1 I called and was told I didn't make the first cut but maybe on April 12. Sure enough, on April 12 I got the call that I made it. However, the difference might have been that during those last few weeks, I was actively looking for a clinical site and had two contracts signed "just in case".

Good luck to you and keep us posted. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

PS. If you haven't already done so, sign up for some of the prerequisite courses like A&P, nutrition, etc. I've been taking them online with ccconline. Let Deaconess know that you are enrolled in some of the courses, that might help also.

just wanted to let you know that i called dcn admissions yesterday because i still haven't received my packet yet. i asked them what was happening with their "experimental program" where they plan to add 20 more students, and i was told that they still hope to do that but they do not know when it will go ahead... they hope by fall it will be available but maybe not until january. if i had to guess, i would say they are waiting on state approval to add students to their enrollment. with that in mind i wouldn't give up yet. i am supposed to contact admissions on thursday to let know if i have received my packet, when i speak to them i will ask about the northwest situation...sometimes you get different info from different people, so i will give it a try. what state are you in specifically so i can narrow down my question?

thanks for the encouragement, i didn't let them know that i had a place in mind for my clinicials, however i was pretty sure i would be able to do it there, but i had not be given the ok.i wasn't sure just how to approach the hospital. this a hospital that allows alot of other medical and nursing students to do their clinicals there, so i don't think there will be a big problem, just developing or puting a packet together to present to them and knowing who to give it to is where i am right now. i wasn't sure if i should approach the hospital before i got accept or not, i guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to give them a heads up and and at least get their approval ! i will try my best to be patient and wait until i hear back from deaconess. i am so excited though,, and afraid if i don't get in this time, will i be able to get in the next time? thanks for the feedback and help
