Nursing student with recent DUI. Need advice

Nurses Criminal

Published

Two weeks ago I was arrested for a DUI. Although I have a totally clean record before this awful experience I am ashamed and depressed. I am in my second semester of nursing school in Illinois. My question is will this effect my ability to sit for the Nclex? At almost 50, nursing is my second career go around. I am at a crossroads because if I'm not able to sit for the Nclex and become a RN, then there is no point in finishing the program. Any light anyone can shed on this is most appreciated.

You need a lawyer. Yes, this could very well get you kicked out of nursing school and it will definitely impact your ability to sit for NCLEX. It has been done but it takes a lot longer and is a very arduous and expensive journey. Visit the forum for Nurses / Recovery to find others who have been through your situation.

Have a frank talk with someone at the school. You don't want to waste time and money if there is no hope, and on the other hand you don't want to make a hasty decision to quit school when that may not be the wise choice.

I know my school that I graduated from would kick you out. Heck they kicked out someone that had a minor in possession from years ago. They came into our A &P class one day announced that they adopted a zero tolerance policy and anyone that had any issues would not be allowed to continue. Their rationale was the NCLEX would not allow you to sit so why waste everyone's time.
