I got accepted into a rn program but a year ago I had a foodstamp violations I never went to court and my worker said it shouldn't affect me but I'm still nervous about my background check will this knock me out of the program??

Depends on the level of the crime. Was it a felony. It should be fine if it wasn't a felony. But still not 100% sure about that.

I don't this it was i never heard anything from it I think it was a misdemeanor I think.

did you ever even go to court? I think you will be fine either way.

Nope never went to court and I'm in the process of paying it back

I had a food stamp felony conviction on my record from 18 years ago. I was admitted to the program, graduated and passed the NCLEX on June 5 of this year. I was granted my nursing license and started my first job in the ER last week.

It obviously wasn't a problem for me. I was up front about the charges/conviction. The only holdup for me was obtaining the certified court documents from my conviction in a different state and the fact that the BON had to review my extra paperwork and explanation of events. Your nursing board for your state should have information about licensure with a criminal background.

Just because you (generic, not just the OP) never went to court doesn't mean you were never convicted. Take speeding tickets: if you pay the speeding ticket fine, you avoid court because there's no need for it--you've pled guilty when you mailed them the check...and so you've been convicted of an infraction, misdemeanor or felony (depends on how fast you were driving) without ever seeing the inside of a courtroom.

I would find out the exact status of your case, specifically whether you were convicted under a felony or misdemeanor. As far as what to answer when asked...if you have any question about that, it's best to consult a lawyer or your state BON.
