Returning to Nursing

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I am looking to re-enter nursing after not practicing for 9 years. There are no re-entry courses in my area. I have a BSN with a high GPA. My past experience is medical-surgical, PACU, and L&D. I am doing CE units at Nurse.com specifically for re-entry. What is the best way to get a foot back in the door?

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

Get ACLS? And network...can you call your old hospital?

Can you work outside the hospital in a clinic or nonprofit?

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

Check your state's NPA - to see if there are any specific requirements for returning to the workforce after being inactive for so long. I think that you are going to find that acute care is a very different world than you remember, with many more demands and much higher productivity expectations. Ambulatory care may be an easier transition for you.

Thank you for your response. I did get ACLS and BLS. I am ready for hire, possible psych position in May when the new psych unit opens at a local hospital.
