Called the Nurse Manager

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I called the nurse manager this morning, I didn't expect her to answer but she did (!!!!) so I had to quickly gather myself and asked her about an update on my application. She said that HR should be contact me and to look on the Montefiore website (whats on the web?) What am I looking for she didn't say and she seemed as if she was in a rush. Im starting to think I didn't get it because wouldn't she have given me a better answer than that?

If you applied online and had to create an account with a log-in and password, you can usually check the status of your application. It should tell you if it's still being considered and, if not, it should give you a disposition.

Managers aren't usually in the game until after an HR recruiter interviews you first. Have you had an interview already?

Yes I had an interview already with the nurse manager. Thats why I'm feeling like I didn't get it cause it seems like she's giving me the run around instead of just being direct.

And she very well may have been in a hurry. You did spring a call on her unannounced; I say this with all kindness, but it is a touch unrealistic to expect her to have a leisurely detailed chat with you on no notice :) Especially as you're probably not the first applicant calling her for updates about their application.

That being said...who knows what this phone call meant? Maybe she was really in a hurry, maybe she didn't recall who you are, maybe she's not handling the application at this step, maybe you didn't get it and she doesn't want to be the one to break it to you, maybe you did get it but she's not authorized to say anything yet, and/or maybe you are at the point where you really do have to sit and wait for HR/the website to update you. It's tempting to try to read into the phone call, especially when eager for the job...but you shouldn't let yourself do that.

She told you what you need to do next: wait on HR/website. That's all you can do at this point. I know it's not easy to do, but you've already made your follow-up contact; pressing her further will probably hurt your chances more than help them.

Best of luck.

If you read my comment above Monte does not have a website where you can log in and see the status of your application. And everyone has their own opinions about calling nurse managers so I went with the latter. My problem is that Im being pressured into taking a job I don't want by my parents and I would love to know as soon as possible, instead of starting to work there then a month later I get a call and leave the other facility.

Trust me, I don't fault you for wanting to call the manager--been there, done that myself. I'm cautioning you not to read too much into how that phone call went, because there's a 1000 possible explanations behind how she reacted.

Are you a new grad? If you are and already have a job offer from someplace, then I strongly suggest you take that certain offer and work on getting your first year over with, even if you don't really want this job. It's better then waiting on an uncertain interview and then ending up with no job, especially as the job market is lousy for new grads.

If the facility does not have a website, then I wonder why she told you to check the website...

I don't have an offer from that place but my father works there and could get me the job. Thing is if I start working here and received the offer I want, I will most defiantly leave that place whether I have been there a year, few months, few weeks.

It's lousy for those with experience as well !

So let me get this straight.

You're hurrying to get an answer from an employer you do not really want to work for, so that you can hurry up and please your parents but if parents get you a better job, you'll jump ship?

Did I get it right?

Lmao that was the complete opposite, that doesn't even make sense lol. The employer I REALLY want to work for is the one I'm hurrying to get an answer from. My parents want me to work at some place that I do not want to work for (while I'm waiting to here back from my 1st choice). So I'm saying if my 1st choice offers me the job I'm jumping ship from the other place (where my parents want me to work). I would NEVER work anywhere to please anyone, my happiness comes first. But my main goal is to get the offer from my 1st choice so I won't have to go through the messiness of quitting if I've only been there a few weeks.

I did and the guy took down my info and said he would get back to me....so I'm still here tapping my toes.
