NYP ED Nurse Residency Program 2017

Nurses Job Hunt

Does anyone have any insight on the NYP Cornell Emergency Department Nurse Residency Program? All I can find on the NYP website is this little blurb:

ED Nurse Residency Program

The NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Emergency Department (ED) Nurse Residency Program provides a one year comprehensive orientation for new graduate nurses to prepare them for a career in our Emergency Department - a Level 1 Trauma Center, Stroke Center, Burn Center and Psychiatric Receiving Center. Our one of a kind program includes a mile in your shoes,” a monthly rotation of 20 specialty areas including ICU, OR, EMS, respiratory therapy…etc. In addition they will participate in the UHC/AACN Nurse Residency Program and enjoy biweekly ED education days. The Nurse residents will graduate with experience in all areas of emergency medicine, a chosen mentor to guide them throughout their career and a staff position in the ED.

The application went up March 10, 2017 and I got an email March 13th that they have received my resume and will review my qualifications. I'm a new grad RN who passed NCLEX and am currently job hunting/interviewing. Just wondering if anyone has been in the program or knows anything else about it, like how long did it take for you to get an interview/get accepted into the program, when does the program start, do you recommend it, etc. I'm interviewing at other hospitals and am weary of accepting other job offers as this program would be my first choice for sure (I used to be and EMT and I love the ED). Seeing as in NYC, hospitals don't hire new grads w/o nursing experience in the ED, this would be the perfect way for me to get in. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I also applied to the ED Residency interview event on March 12th. My application status changed to "Application under review" on March 21st. Any updates on your part yet?

Yes, same here. The program receives hundreds of applicants and apparently only 2-3 people are chosen. Also, program starts in August. I'm going to keep it as an option but not solely relying on it.

Same! I'll be applying to other hospitals as well. I hear the application process for NYP is really long. How do you know that the program starts in August? And 2-3 people ???? That's crazy...

I got an email interviews are next month and that it starts in November, hmm.

Congrats! My application still says "received application". Just out of curiosity, did you work at NYP or have a clinical there? I'm wondering how they screen their applicants. Also, when did you status change?

Hi there - any chance you can share a name or email address ? Really trying to get in touch with someone there. Thank !

i didn't get an actual interview, just an email saying they need an essay. I had two sets of Clinicals at NYP.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Moved to more appropriate forum for more responses

I also got the email for the essay. The recruiter said they are aiming to send out interview invitations by the end of this week. Good luck to everyone! :)

Any updates on this?

Emails inviting those to the interview day for May 17th have already been sent out!
