Interview with same nurse manager for 2 different departments?!

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I am currently in the middle of interviews with our local health department. Two weeks ago I interviewed for a position in Immunizations that I REALLY want and am awaiting word which should come anytime now.

Their recruiter also called me to interview for another clinic in the health department but the interview is with the SAME manager from the first one. Wouldnt this be awkward?

The interviews are an hour long and they ask the same questions, that require lengthy answers, for each department. They are like verbal essay questions.

Is it smart for me to go to this interview when I really want the position in the other department? I dont want this manager to feel like I am hopping from place to place. I really need a job and am stressed....ugh!

She knows, and she probably told HR to go ahead and bring you in to interview for this one too. Look at it this way: You now have doubled your chances to be hired!

^^^^^^^ THIS THIS THIS....she may think you are better suited for this position either way she KNOWS she has interviewed you before....be flattered.

Well thank you.......I was hoping she knows. I have experience in immunizations but none for this position, which is a TB nurse. That makes me nervous. I am hoping it goes well! :)

It gives you an opening to ask her which position she thinks you're better suited for, and why. See, that question makes the assumption that she has already decided that you are, or are likely to be. How she answers it will give you a good indication.

Thank you for the advice GrnTea....it is very helpful  I am excited and nervous all at the same time! I greatly want to return to Public Health :)

Yay! I'm happy for you! You have an awesome chance of getting one of the jobs and my friend loves being a TB nurse. I'm so glad I got into public health, so so so much better than the hospital.

What exactly is the role of a TB nurse?

It probably varies from county to county but likely involves following up with people in the community that have TB and seeing how they're doing and making sure they're compliant with meds. It may also involve notifying and testing people that have been exposed or are at risk.

This is what I was thinking.....it would be a brand new world for me. I have been trained in family planning/women's health, immunizations, pediatrics, std/HIV.

STD/HIV world has a lot in common with TB world in terms of epidemiology and delivering unwelcome news. Some overlap in populations, too. You might also be doing DOT (directly observed therapy) to be sure people are taking their meds QD. Great job! Good luck!

Thank you.....I will let you know how it goes :)
