Hey my AN Family!!

I just interviewed at a correctional facility. (MY DREAM!!) :) I feel my interview went very well. Right before I went on a tour of the facility, the DON told me "Keep applying. Even if you don't get the position, not saying you won't! But, if it doesn't work out, please keep applying!" I wasn't sure how to take it. I took it as a compliment since she liked me enough to keep applying, but I'm also scared I wasn't what they were looking for. I know they have a few more interviews to do and I will know for sure next week whether I got it or not.

What do you guys think? Am I more paranoid than I thought? HA

Sounds like she liked you but didn't know if you were going to get hired. There are so many variables with hiring, things that have nothing to do with you, that she wants you for the job but it just might not be feasible right now. Hopefully you'll get it, but if not it seems like they do want you. Good luck.

I would interpret that as they already know who they're going to hire, but she likes you and would hire you for a subsequent opening.

I think she was giving you warning advice (wink, wink, nod, nod) to keep on looking. I believe correctional facilities are Civil Service positions. Anything can occur during the search process like veterans preference, union seniority, eligibility lists, intra-facility transfers, etc. Any of those could take automatic precedence over you even though you may be a good fit for the position.

Also positions can open but then close due to the decision to not fill. They can hold on to applications for a while so some future opportunities may still come around.

I did a clinical rotation in a prison and LOVED it. I really felt good making a difference in this population. I am nonjudgmental and don't mind providing healthcare to the "outcasts" of society. Anything psych, correctional, or community nursing is right up my alley!

Good luck to you! I work in community health for low income/uninsured/immigrant, etc. It's exhausting at times, but very rewarding. I do feel like I'm making a difference in these women's lives.
