hello evryone..

im leah from the philippines.

want to meet filipino nurses here...

and discuss with them their success stories of immigrating in the usa..

and maybe they could help me also.

mga pinoys and pinays...hope u could find time of sharing your stories here...

thank you...god bless..

for those filipino nurses who are already in the usa, are there really discriminations in the working area? :uhoh21: how do you handle it? :)

tip for discrimination? don't let anybody step on your toes! we filipinos tend to keep things within ourselves, don't be afraid to speak up! i don't want you to get frustrated, okay? :)

even with a direct hire, you are still responsible for the visa screen process.

you also need to complete the full set of english exams. i would suggest that you start that right away, as that can take quite awhile...........months, not weeks.......there are already many in line in front of you for california. also don't forget to apply right away to california bon, you need the "att" letter from them to be able to take your exam.

but a word of advice to all of you: i would highly recommend that you apply and take the cgfns exam, even though right now you want california. they have new patient ratios that have gone into effect, so many nurses from other states are applying there, and a us trained nurse is going to get hired first, no time delay, they will be able to start within weeks, not months. so i would highly suggest covering yourselves and getting the exam done so you will have many more options open to you.

good luck :balloons:

hi suzanne!!thanks for the advise..i know about the visa screen..i have applied for it and im just waiting for the certificate..i already have my cgfns certificate..

i know for the fact that processing times in ca would take for a while..but my aunt said it depends upon how will the petitioner will make "diskarte"...or what kind of petitioner is petitioning you...but at least i just made my first step... :) the hospital, my petitioner has offered $10,000 sign in bonus and a 2 year contract of full time employment with them..

and this is the worst part....to wait....for approval... :crying2:

hi leah, I want to ask what hosp offered a 10 thousand bonus. Is it because you have a good resume to back you up? I have been looking for an internship program in San Francisco area, and none offered any kind of bonus yet. Kaiser offered around 33.5/ hour as a basepay for new grads plus shift differentials and they are fixin to have 6% raise towards the end of this yr. there has been alot of sign on bonuses here in Dallas around 3 thousand lang with a 1 yr contract after internship training is done. Internship training is around 8-12 weeks with pay, you have to attend professional RN classes and competency in equipment and skills. Some requires Advance Cardiac Support Classes. I think my classmate told me that they also do require new grads to attend computerized charting classes. PLEASE.... Can somebody help me...because I think my confidence level just went to zero (on a scale of 0-10, the 10 is the most confident I would ever feel, and zero is I got no confidence at all). I will be fraduating next month (may 10) and recently found that I am preggy....so all my internships might have to be delayed, i dont think the recruiters would hire me once they find that I am pregnant. I'm currently in 14th week gestation....maybe I can just work in dialysis or something like that, and I will just go back to hospital setting later this year.

Does anybody have any clue how much dialysis pays in South San Francisco, Daly city area?? Can anybody recommend a good dialysis center there?? I am getting desperate. I am in the LVN to RN program and I will be taking the RN boards this June....thanks for the help.

Ria

JB, hi I go to Trinity Valley, I attended the LVN to RN program. Medical City of Dallas have a really good benefits package, why dont you check it out, I think they start at around 18.5 or 19 yata...ewan, nde ko sure pero maganda and benefits plan nila.

regards.

sorry for the typos....i meant graduating next month.

yipeeee

Hi Suzanne and Kyutnurse,

Thanks for your messages. I passed both CGFNS (Jul03) and English - IELTS (Oct 03) I have submitted visa screen application last Dec03. All these, I have coursed thru an agency. LAst Mar 25, I got a job offer. Accdg to my agency they will start my petition this month of APril. and probably I will be based in Texas. How long would it really take? Im a bit confused though. I heard from someone that it will only take a minimum of 8 months, but i just read somewhere in this forum that it will take longer, same is true if you'll be based in california or florida. Unlike if you're going to NY, NJ or that part near Vermont, which is a lot shorter.

And one more question, do i really need to have the hospital experience? My agency wants me to resign from my job now and apply in hospital to get that clinical experience. (I only had one year of PDN and 2 yrs as first aid volunteer in Red CRoss.) I am currently working in a pharmaceutical company as clerk/secretary and Im properly compensated. It's a big risk, really, to leave the company that enables me to feed 2 mouths. :crying2: I have 2 kids, ages 5 and 3. If I am going to apply in a hospital and work as a nurse here in the phils, I fear I may not be able to buy white stockings for my duty. :angryfire wanna know how much a nurse earns for an 8-hr duty? brace yourself - it's as low as $5. Approx $0.625 an hour!!!! I'm talking about big tertiary hospitals in the metropolis huh, cut it by half if you work in a rural areas. mind you, nurses will get paid only after 1-3 months of "NO-SALARY" training. BIG RISK, but do I have a choice not to get the hospital training here? I'd greatly appreciate your comments.

thanks and God bless...

Neriners,

The time frame will depend on which center does the final processing of your paperwork. It can be as short as 3 months (if east coast) and as long as 9 -12months for some other areas. One hold up for many is the Visa Screen Certificate, that can take up to 6 months, so you are ahead of the game. Do you have to go to Texas, or can they switch you to the east coast where processing time is very short AND salaries are much higher than Texas? Are you able to get a part-time weekend job for the next few months of perhaps 12 hour shifts to get in some hospital experience? In my personal experience, you are going to get an orientation at your new hospital for probably three months, your salary may be a little lower because of the lack of recent hospital expereince, but that should be all that makes a difference.

Let this serve as a wake-up call to all of you..............get everything in writing before you sign any type of contract as far as what your requirements are to complete before you can leave, as far as hospital work,etc..

Hope that this helps you................. :balloons:
