Finding employment in Ontario

Hi everyone!

I have recieved several inbox messages about where to find employment in Ontario, Canada! Because I am new to the site I am unable to send private messages. I am posting this thread to hopefully get some feedback from fellow nurses about where they found jobs in Ontario!

A little bit about me.. I am from Niagara Falls, Ontario and after 2 unsuccessful attempts at the dreaded NCLEX I finally passed in March 2016. I submitted over 150 resumes to basically every job posting I could find! The only interviews I was able to obtain were in home care and in long term care. I accepted the home care position but after 2 weeks I decided it wasn't for me. (Didn't care for driving my own vehicle, long breaks between clients and unorganized management, also they were not unionized so the pay was much less than hospital or ltc). Anyways I ended up getting a position at a very large nursing home near my home. They are unionized have great benefits and pension and I am so happy with my decision. I quite enjoy ltc. I know it's not everyone's first choice but because I literally could not get an interview at the hospital I wasn't left with much of a choice for employment. But everything ended up working out in the end! Moral of the story apply to EVERY posting and I mean EVERYTHING! Also if you live in the GTA I would recommend communiting or relocating to another town. The GTA is saturated with nurses right now and if you're a new grad they pretty much won't even look at your application! If anyone has any advice on where they were able to find employment in Ontario please share!

Wow reading your thread I thought maybe I had written it and didn't remember .what I mean is this sounds so much like the same situation I was facing. Except at the time I had written the dreaded CRNA... omg I feel so old lol

Anyhow, to solve my problem I ended up making a decision and moved to another province. You can also try rural ontario... any rural area are alwaystill looking for nurses.

Good luck dear.
