Can licensed RPN of ON work in other province like AB?

I just passed my RPN exam recently, it's not easy to find job right now, most of them are part time.

I want to try other province like BC or AB, does any one has some good advice about it? Is Ontario rpn license can work in other province, or maybe need some other assesment or exam?

Not really too sure on this issue. Start by checking out their website, found some info at this link http://www.clpna.com/Applicants/LicensedinAnotherProvinceorUSA/tabid/74/Default.aspx. My thoughts are that you would have to become licensed to work in that province. If you are already licensed in Ontario may be as simple as paying their membership dues. A quick phone call should clear things up for you.

Good Luck

I am currently licensed in Ontario and got my license in Alberta. If you have already written the CPRNE then you just need to contact the CLPNA in Alberta and they will send you the information on how to get your registration in Alberta. You do not have to write another exam but you will have to get a fair number of forms completed from the CNO, your nursing school and your employers if you are working. Good Luck

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

You know that old saying about the grass being greener?

Well, it's hard to get a job in BC, especially the lower mainland and on the island. Preference is usually given to locally educated nurses.

AB still has jobs. But usually out of major centres and in LTC.

Remember there is always a reason a job isn't filled and they are willing to hire from another province. It's either a bad location or a terrible employer. The majority of new hires start out part time or even casual with no guarantee of hours

If you've got family to stay with, make the move. If it means a total relocation into an unknown area, think long and hard.

Hi,

I am also planning to move Alberta due to job. I got RPN license in Dec. 2011 in Ontario. Please tell me whats the process of Alberta LPN license. And what about jobs in Alberta.

Thanks.

the process will be on the college website

Hi! I am an RPN and currently in the process of applying for my Alberta license. I am hoping to find someone who is re-locating as well to help share the expenses of moving. Would you be interested?? Please contact me, if you haven't already relocated. I am thinking of either Red Deer or Edmonton. Providing this is a current post from 2012....i have not seen any recent postings....

Thank you!

I just wanted to know how long the process took and also how long it took before you got a job.

The poster you quoted hasn't been on the site since that post.

You need to allow roughly 3 months to process all the paperwork. There is a lot when you move between provinces.

Jobs are not that easy to find. My unit posted a vacancy and had 60 INTERNAL applicants who are looked at first, no idea of how many outside applicants and local new grads applied.

There are jobs in non union LTCs. Just remember there are reasons jobs aren't filled and usually it's due to working conditions.

Thank you zoo much.

Where do you work if you don't mind me asking?

I planning on going in person a few times but now I know internal applicants will get first dibbs geesh, I'm still going to come and try though...

I don't know why people are trying to come to AB for jobs when there aren't. Even the grads here are scrambling for jobs. Many of my friends who graduated from Engineering can't get jobs. It's getting ridiculous to be honest.

I'm not joking. Thanks to Redford, the education and health care budgets have been severely cut. Meanwhile, all the people in higher position are raking in more money for themselves and have million dollar retirement parties.
