In BC theres no jobs for lpns too -.-

thanks guys.

We have been telling people for years now that Alberta has a job problem when it comes to nursing.

You've got several strikes against you.

No actual nursing experience.

You haven't got an Alberta license yet. You may have to upgrade in some areas and you won't know this until CLPNA is finished your assessment. (This is their busiest time of year due to registration renewals).

Employers prefer to hire local new grads because they know how the system works.

AHS really slows down at this time of year for the hiring process.

You need to approach the non-profit places (Good Sam, Salvation Army, BMHC, etc) They are good at hiring new grads but again it's your practice permit that will make them look twice at hiring you.

You just have to keep applying. Do you have family here?

There are many threads here and many news articles all over the internet re: AHS and layoffs, "transformation", etc. AB is no better than BC for work, especially for new grads.

As Fiona said, apply to the private companies. You also require an active AB license. Are you willing to work rural? Many small towns in AB are in need of staff. This is not an ideal time to look for work though, since managers will start taking holidays in another week or so.

ive been applying since i came here i got a few calls as a HCA but the position is only casual and they havent called me for any shifts. ive been calling them to pick up shifts but they said they dont have any. -.-

and yes i have my family here.

so i guess i can only work as a HCA here eh?

do u have any idea how CLPNA would do the assessment? would they look at my grades?

thinking of going back to school, change of career. but i love nursing thou. ayaa

thanks Fiona59 and Joanna73

CLPNA looks at all the information you submit. It used to be that BC graduates had to upgrade the Anatomy because they were missing a few areas of assessment.

Have you called CLPNA to find out where in the process your application is? There are times that you really have to nip at them.

Casual is how most new grads get employment. If you are willing to work shift the staffing clerks love you.

I moved to Alberta in 2011 from BC and they didn't make me upgrade anything.

actually i havent mailed the application yet, im kind off confused on how to do it and how to complete the application. i dont want to miss anything and re do all over again.

thank you,

did u work in BC before moving here?

cuz i moved here right away after my CPNRE was done.

THANK YOU

one more question can i get a temp license here in AB?

You won't find a job without a license!

Get to work on your package.

Specializes in geriatrics.

Download all the forms from the website, fill them out and send all your supporting documents. If your documents aren't at least in progress, no employer will hire you.

It can take at least 5-8 weeks for a temp license.

mailed my application. i have a file in CLPNA already and. hoping i wont upgrade anything. -.- fingers crossed

THANK YOU LADIES FOR ALL YOUR HELP. APPRECIATE IT.

Does anyone have an idea on how does CLPNA do their assessment for transferring a license here in AB? And how long would it take for the assessment to be finish?
