Hi, caliotter3 i tried PMing you but your inbox is full. i have read your one post about attending a lvn program while taking prerequisites. I am interested in hearing about this because I will be attending a lvn program at an adult school and would like to knock out my science prerequisites at the same time. Were you referring to taking the other prerequisites besides science+ labs?

Tasha: I don't know which post you are referring to, but I did not attend an LVN program. I was in a BSN program and took the NCLEX for LVN while in that program. Basically, I have continually, one way or another, at one time or another, been attending school taking the required courses. Part of that is because the programs have added drop dead dates for allowing science courses and/or other nursing prerequisites, so I ended up having to repeat a bunch of stuff and start over more than once, or even twice. My problem was being unable to actually graduate due to severe personal problems causing me to have to leave school, more than once! At my age now, I probably will not ever be able to complete a program.

I usually advise people who have not started yet, to start out with the gen ed courses that are always necessary for graduating first. For example: Freshman English (Eng 1 or 101). Freshman English is always required for a degree and is never going to change and normally once you take it, you never have to worry about it again. After taking all of these courses, take the sciences and other courses that have a drop dead date (for each of the nursing programs that you are considering) last; just in case, so they have the longest 'expiration' date possible.

If you are attending an LVN program at an adult school, you can begin taking your prerequisite courses at the nearest community college at the same time, using the advice above, if the adult school courses will not transfer to the college. If you can't afford a full course load, you can take as many classes as you can pay for at one time. Even at one class at a time, there will come a time when you will be able to apply to the RN program if you have planned out your timeline.

Just go onto the website of the nursing programs you are interested in and see what the requirements are for each one and move on from there. Good luck.

Hi Caliotter3, I tried to PM , but inbox is full....I have been reading many posts from you and you seem to offer great wisdom and knowledge that may help me. Im located in southern California and i just got accepted to start a lvn program at an adult school and excited. I start jan 26. I just spoke to one of my classmates and she told me about CNI 20 month RN program. Its $64k and its BRN accredited but not WASC, which means only University of Phoenix accepts transferrable credits for the ADN-BSN route. Now I am debating what to do since the CNI program is pretty much the same amount as the LVN program. I am just scared of that 64k loan and additional cost for the ADN-BSN. I mine as well go to west coast university..the only thing is i'm interested in doing a lvn-rn route but I do not have any prerequistes completed and going to California community colleges are super pact that time will be flying by. I was hoping to find a lvn-rn school where I can test out a lot of exams (clep, dante) or find a place that will help pay for my schooling. I have an aunt that works at Kaiser in LA and she said that they helped pay a portion of her bsn tuition. any advice will be great

PS I do remember you telling me about if I go the lvn route at an adult school that its doable to take prereqs at the same time right? I did see this anatomy class that are weekends so there are weekend science class available
