Boy, Did I Feel Stupid!

Ok, true story here.

A while back I was working the night shift and was relieved to have a few days off. On those days off I would sleep at night so I could spend time with hubby.

One night I was reading a really good book and had the lights on over the bed, I had a bit of a headache and had taken a couple of tylenol pm. Hubby was still up on the computer and didn't come to bed till much later. Well, I managed to rouse up thinking I had only dozed off for a minute or two and it was complete darkness!!! I panicked! I jumped out of bed and screeched, "Oh my God, I've gone freakin' blind!!!!!!", and took of running and ran right into the bathroom door head first.

My husband casually clicked on the light and looked at me and said, "Why is it that when people think they've gone blind they just take off running?"

I had no answer for that. I just know that's one of my greatest fears and thought that the headache was a precursor to my blindness. I panicked and couldn't breathe so I just took off running to see I find a source of light somewhere. I kept our room completely dark so I could sleep days so at night it's pitch black.

Oh well, just one of many moments that I'm not really proud of.

Yep, the joys of working nights and being totally screwed up in the sleep department. I never had anything THAT dramatic () happen, but I did wake up totally confused many times - thinking I had overslept because it was dark, thinking it was morning instead of late afternoon and vice versa.

I feel like a new person working days.

We've all done something like that, doesn't make you stupid, but does give you something to laugh about later
BTW-how's your head after running into the door?

Hehe, head is ok. Just cause a red bump in middle of my forehead. That was freaky! LOL....I literally couldn't breathe when I roused awake and realized it was pitch black. I laid there like a wounded deer then jumped out of bed like one and WHAM, right into the door. Husband still makes fun of me for that

I don't know why, but that just really struck me as funny. I'm laughing so hard I snorted coffee and spewed it all over the computer! My patient thinks I've lost it.

We've all had those "night shift moments." I got a call from a good friend at about 2 in the afternoon. Sue had been working night shift, so I was surprised to hear from her.

"Help!" she said. "I've got a problem. I need you to look at something for me."

"OK, what?"

"I need to know if it's daytime or nighttime because I can't figure out if I need to be at work."

We finally established that she couldn't see her alarm clock because of "the glare from the sun coming in that bedroom window." That would make it daytime, I guess.

It's not as though I myself has ever had to call my husband at work to find out whether it's 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning. (Of course *HE* lied to me, and thought it was incredibly funny to see me jump in the shower and get ready for work when I didn't need to be there for HOURS!)

Ah....the joys of working night shift. I always am messing up the days. some days i'm a day behind, or some times i'm a day ahead. just depends on how tired I am. I've also jumped out of bed, got my clothes on and ran downstairs to get into my car only to look at the clock and realize it's 2 in the afternoon!!!

Don't ya just hate that moment of panic when you think you're running late? I've done that many times! I've jumped out of bed thinking I was so late and tried to think of what excuse I was going to use because I was late.

LOL Ruby, your hubby sounds like mine. Will do anything to get a laugh at my expense. Which doesn't compare to the time he pulled a good one too.
One summer we were sleeping with our bedroom windows open because it was actually nice and cool and the breeze felt perfect. We had just gone to sleep and all of a sudden we hear this hissing sound and something jump through the blinds. He jumps out of bed with his tighty whiteys on and grabs our tall floor lamp and hollers out. I flip the light on over the bed and he's standing there like he's holding a weapon and a cat ran back through the window. I was laughing at him so hard because he looked so funny, like he was gonna whip some a$$ with his lamp! I still laugh whenever I get that visual image. LOL
