what would you do in this situation? 2 job offers

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

So i got an interview in the ER, then i applied to a nursing home who interviewd me on the spot and both told me they'll call me next week...

i want to work in the ER, but if i heard from the nursing home first, i will accept it because i need a job. So, if i did accept the offer from the nursing home, then i got an offer for the ER position, what should I do?

Can I accept the position then decline it few days later if the ER position was offered?

I need some answers, i'm confused on what to do.

You have to do what's best for YOU. You could always work both, one of them perdiem. Beware of getting stuck in long term care for very long. There really (in my opinion) isn't much room for growth in LTC. And later, it may be hard to get into the hospital. ER will give you much needed experience. I would grab it.

That said, beware of ending up with NO job! If the nursing home calls first, I might tell them "thankyou for the offer, can I get back to you tomorrow?" I would then call the hospital kindly and ask on the status of your application.

Tell the nursing home : "thanks for your offer, can I get back to you by the end of the week/next ____?" If they want you, they won't say no.

If the ER is the place that you are wanting to work, then I would accept that job offer! I know that you feel bad about it, but I really wouldn't blame you! IMO I would much rather work in the ER than the nursing home. Some people prefer LTC jobs, but I really don't think I would. I did my clincials in a LTC, and I am going to wait and work at a hospital after I get certified next month.

I used to be an emergency room nurse and I would urge you to accept the ER position. You will grow not only as a nurse but as a person. I think it's the best place to get your hands on procedural, communication, and assessment skills. Once you work in the ER you can basically go anywhere from there (I eventually went to Trauma ICU then CVICU). I worked at a county level 1 trauma center and I'm so grateful because I was able to take the knowledge I learned within a year and go travel nursing for 4 years.

thank you guys, I really hope they'd offer me a job in the ER, i would love to be hired there.. Now i'm waiting.

I am having the same problem. I was offered a job in LTC, a nice facility..but I had an interview at the hospital..I would prefer the hospital, but do need a job! Also the hospital is nights LTC is day shift. Im going to accept the LTC job to get started on paperwork etc, but I think if the hospital calls I will have to take it. Feel bad but I have to get one or the other.
