  1. do EKGs as much as possible if you're not busy, take vitals n put them in (tell me you did) I will so appreciate it. empty urinals, help patients to the bathroom or bed commodes, always ask the RNs if they need help even if you're feeling lazy that day, 8 out if 10 they'll say no. if you're not sure if u need to hook up someone to the monitor or do EKG, ASK, it's nothin wrong in asking. 99% of the time patients need IVs, if you see the RN busy; place one n send the blood off or hand it to the RN if that's in your scope of practice.
  2. I Work nights and a lot of times we have to mix our own IV drugs because pharmacy isn't available. examples like amiodrone , cardizem, Dilantin, nitro... Ect. It gets frustrating because the reference they provided us doesn't have every drug we need. Thanks
  3. I reconstitute it with NS, we don't carry sterile water vials at my facility..
  4. bakersfield is the not the best place to live but it's not bad either. Its a big city with a lot to offer. kern is the only trauma center in bakersfield, you'll learn alot.
  5. look, everyone makes mistakes. But not sleeping over an order of Benadryl is extreme.. So what if you gave the order IM? If the doctor was cool, he'll say it's fine, and change his order for IM now and PO Next dose.. It's not a big deal.. I would've given it IM, EPS isn't something to mess with and PO takes a long time to enter the blood stream.. Relax and stop your knees from shaking.. it's going to be okay, you new grads are so cute
  6. Starting pay 30$, 4$ differential for nights, and maybe 2-3 weekends.. California
  7. Take the rehab job then quit when you get the other job. You think hospitals care about you? They'll fire you in a second with no hesitation, it's your future.. follow a goal and don't care what hospitals say
  8. That's sad. You can't do anything about it though...
  9. I will never treat someone who screams and talks that way to me with respect. those kind of patients behavior should stop, politely tell them that they need to behave better, write an incident/occur acne report of what happened to cover your butt. Being nice to people like that will only push that behavior further. I'm not a slave, I'm a nurse and I didn't go through nursing school to be talked down to.
  10. Well, why don't you address it with your coworker before writing them up? Yes, it is mean, and it will cause tension between you and your coworker, do you want to come to work knowing that some of your coworkers hate you because you wrote them up? Instead of writing an incident report, why don't you speak with your charge nurse and hint at it. people make mistakes, and if everyone wrote everyone up for everything they've done accidentally wrong, your charge nurse will have a pile of paper to read. My manager told me this "a lot of people complain about the stupidest things that i have no time for" Managment hate complainers...
  11. Call the manager and ask her what is she going to say about you Call HR and see what they'll say when the other employer call Don't say you were terminated on the application, if you want, and everyone is going to ask you, tell them that you were let go and (reason) , be confident, short and tell them that you have something to prove, and just looking for a chance.
  12. a lot of people will hire you, don't lose hope, even as a new grad. 3 month experience is better than no experience. So, keep applying and something will come up
  13. interviews are my thing... You need to be -confident, go in like you know the person you're talking to -smile smile smile, say thank you, please -google the top questions most interviewers ask and copy and paste them, then write your answer under them, you can even google the correct answers. -try to guess anything that you think they might ask and prepare for it.
  14. Hmm, a lot of I.V. get infiltrated and causes swelling, we can't really do anything about it...
  15. ER is mostly what I think is the best learning experience. I'm not sure if a lot of hospitals do hire new grads, so start with anything you can find, and then transition.. A good nursing skills base will help you out anywhere really...
