  1. Thank you! I love the perspective and I think it will help a lot :)
  2. Thank you for your words. They have helped me on my path to a more humble perspective of patient care. -David.
  3. Thank you. Your words and attachments were helpful. The CNAs are actually great workers and after starting the job I am discovering that trust and equality are key to reaching the overall shared goal of patient/resident well-being. About 50.
  4. Hi! I'm looking for a few tips. I'm starting my first RN job at a nursing home. During my interview, I was told there are a lot of young girl CNAs who like their phones, "group tasks" etc haha. I don't want to come off as a know-it-all or a jerk telling them to get to work. Don't get me wrong, I'll say what I have to say to ensure the residents are continually cared for, but what are some approaches some of you have found helpful where everyone stayed happy? I'm 22 years-old and a little passive/inexperienced when it comes to keeping people in line.
  5. What is something: You didn't realize the importance of until you went through it? You feel that nurses often overlook? Or fill in the blank: I'm realizing/have realized that what makes a really good nurse is __________. Nurses need to ____________. The most important thing I've learned as a nurse is __________. Feel free to add anything else you want, or answer none or all of mine Thanks for your time out of this wonderful day. -David
  6. We had a great speaker (oncology nurse) this morning for class and I asked her "What are a couple of practical ways to approach primary prevention in the community". She replied with a couple of ideas including 1) speaking at a high school about smoking, 2)creating a prevention poster, or 3)involving public newspapers.. Do any of you out there have any interesting (or boring!) ideas to promote wellness and prevent health problems, or to get people involved in the community? Thankyou-thankyou, -David
  7. I agree with you about the technology. I've learned by observing, that experienced nurses base their actions on assessing the patient first and not the monitor. Good advice throughout
  8. I see, that's exciting! I hope you have/find a good mentor (that's a whole new topic in itself).
  9. What steps should I take to gain the most experience and competency during my first year as an RN? My areas of interest are ER, ICU med/surg but I want to have a comfortable transition into it, if at all possible. I will sit for the NCLEX-RN this summer and will have completed ACLS (all through an ADN program). I'm 22 y/o, live in Kansas, and am excited to start my career as a nurse. Any of your shared wisdom would really be appreciated and taken into consideration. Thanks!!
