Possible job...should I take it?

so i feel really silly asking this after i see post after post of people looking for months for a job.

i graduated december 2011, took my nclex and got licensed 2-3-12. i've been slowly been looking for jobs, but didn't want to apply till i had my license for sure. i submitted a few and had a bad interview last week and a really good one today. i don't want to jinx it, but the director kind of told me to expect a call from hr tomorrow (crossing fingers). the position is in med-surg with a little tele and a little rehab. i've always been interested in l&d but i really feel like a blank canvas. i don't know what i'll be good at, or what i'll like.

if i'm offered should i take it? will i be forever bound to the med-surg world?this is just so nerve-wrecking. i don't my choice to hurt my chances of doing other things.

Yes, take it. You can gain valuable nursing experience on a Med-Surg floor. Having experience beats no experience, and you may find out where your interest lies while working on the floor. Open your eyes and be open to all areas of nursing--don't just pigeon hole yourself into something that you thought you might like while in school. School and the working world are two different things, and there's plenty of nurses out there who thought they might like one area of nursing, but then dislike it when working in that area. Or vice versa. Nursing is a huge field and it encompasses many areas--let yourself explore!

As for being bound to Med-Surg...no I don't think so. With some experience under your belt, opportunities will open up.

You need to take it! You will learn a lot on Med-Surg unit. Remember there are SO many areas for nurses to work in and you are never stuck. Best of luck!

Yes, take it! I have been looking for 3 months. As a new grad BSN no one wants to hire us. Take anything to get that first year under your belt. You are so incredibly lucky if you find a job within the first month of being hired. I've read on this forum it takes about 3-6 months and I even read a story of someone who had been looking for 22 months!
