Job offer...now what?

Hi everyone! I am hoping for some advice. I graduate in May, and was lucky enough to receive a job offer after my first interview, and this job is perfect for me. I'm really excited.

I read this forum a lot, and I've read several posts about people receiving job offers that ended up falling through. The nurse recruiter told me that I am guaranteed this job, as long as I pass the NCLEX, but they aren't going to have me sign an employment contract until that time. My start date isn't until August, which the start date for all new grads at their facility.

Are there any additional steps I need to take now? I would like to have an offer in writing, but I'm not sure how to bring that up without sounding rude. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated!

they should be sending you an offer letter outlining your start date, salary and conditions of employment (either TPP or passing boards)...there is no harm in asking for it...

Thanks, I guess I should go ahead and ask about it, the recruiter didn't say anything about sending me something like that. I just don't want it to sound like I'm accusing them of trying to trick me...I'm probably over thinking this. A job offer over the phone just doesn't feel real to me yet!

Am I being overly paranoid, or is not following through on job offers something that happens fairly frequently?

You are wise to take this step.

This is a business, and oral agreements are only worth the paper they're written on (sic).

Call or email, tell them you are thrilled about coming to work there, but you'd feel much more comfortable if they could send you a verification offer letter.
