Random Vent- Cover Letters

I very strongly dislike cover letters. What a waste of time and energy! I'm for substance (resume) rather than flowery self-inflation and behind-kissing. My new cover letter shall be as follows:

Dear Hospital,

I'm awesome.

You're awesome.

Let's be awesome together.

Sincerely,

Love it !!! I don't look forward to writing my cover letter at all. Especially when sending them out to different facilities. I have another month or so before I start sending out my Cover letter. October is when alot of hospitals start accepting applications for new grads.

Cover letters are not for behind kissing as you say. They introduce you as a person to the employer. If this is a joke post so be it, but you need to take writing a cover letter seriously - are you actively searching for work now?

A professional resume or CV won't get you a job. It doesn't tell the employer anything about you. For example, what background do you have with your experience? Did you enjoy what you did, have you taken it further with extra study? What hours/days are you looking for? What hours/days etc can you NOT work? What can you bring personally to the job they are advertising?

What are your interests? Do you like working with certain patient groups, and why are you applying for that particular job?

A cover letter gives you the opportunity to talk a bit about yourself and plug yourself. And you don't have to kiss anyone's behind - experienced employers would know if you were flattering them unnecessarily. They want a letter that states the real you, and to give them an idea of what you think, some info on what you are like as a person, and a chance to see your grammar and English skills.

A resume describes your skills and accomplishments.

The cover letter is your opportunity to shine. Your only chance to say "this is who I am, this is what sets me apart from the 100 other applicants, and this is why you should invite me in for an interview."

I hate writing them, but I love sending them in so the stranger at the other end has a better idea who I really am.

I'd love to see canned objectives on resumes go away before cover letters do.

Ah yes - this person is looking for a challenging, autonomous position which will build on their (four months of) previous nursing experience. What a perfect fit.
