Declining coverage-The worst is yet to come

As of 2007, employer-sponsored health insurance remained the dominant form of health insurance in the United States. Over the 2000s, however, the share of Americans receiving coverage through an employer (whether their own, or that of their spouse or parent) has declined steadily. As of 2007, the share of individuals covered by employer-based policies was almost 5 percentage points smaller than in 2000 (see Figure). This decline, not surprisingly, coincided with a rise in the number of Americans without health insurance coverage.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before,

but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that?

If somebody is unable to understand THIS explanation, I have serious doubts about their ability to even function in society, much less run our country.

I am saddened by statements in this post. :( Some people don't care to hear or listen to "what is", but only care to "stick to what has been for so long" that the need for serious change never enters in for all people. Very sad day in America indeed. :(

Why did the professor tell them, "no one would fail and no one would receive an A." and then FAIL them all?

He taught them that professors lie.

I would get it in writing.

How did he get permission to pass or fail an entire class? I would have studies and done my best. Why should I fal and not become anurse.

Plus I heard this story decades before Presiddent Obama was elected.

It's a simple analogy regarding the pitfalls of a socialist society.

I'm sorry you were confused, I'll spell things out in simpler terms in the future.

So sorry to be so dumb.

Are you saying that the Europeans, Japanese, Australians, Kiwis, and other people who live in countries without fear of bankruptcy have no ambition?

Or that students only study for a grade?

Or just repeating an OLD story in an attempt to mislead people about the President of the United States?

Is it OK for fewer people to have any security regarding their access to healthcare?

I'm with herring, only my question is - do you think Americans are so lazy that, if they get the same kind of health care model utilised by every other Western society, they'll decide to give up on working, their health, and any personal accoun tability and responsibility? Because that's apretty damning perspective to have of your own citizens.

If I, too, am too dumb to understand your analogy, please explain more clearly.

I think that once healthcare is perceived to be free, the flood of drug seekers ALONE will overwhelm the system, and it will crash & burn.

Why would you believe that a government that can't even get Americans to sign up for SCHIP will be any better at a bigger, more cumbersome system?

Yes, it is damning. The best predictor of the future is the past. Look at how the colonies attempted to institute the 'common stores system.' The analogy above is based on this failed system.

Let's look at the top 10 cities with the highest poverty levels.....

Approximately 40% of 'taxpayers' receive an 'earned income credit' which is greater than their scheduled FICA. In other words, they get back more than they pay in....it's a social program meant to offset taxes for the poor. Yes, some get thousands more than they were scheduled to pay in.

Yes, it comes out of your pocket.

You want to pay more? Please, by all means, send in your check today.

It is the poor who habitually elect Democrats---yet they are still poor...

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.

You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves."

I think that you are missing the fact that with Obamacare, the middle class will be crushed. Look closer at the definition of 'income'

Cause you're about to become 'rich'

Negative. My wife and I (both RNs) are in the middle class. We pay our own way. Being forced to fund a trillion dollar mistake WILL crush us. Frankly, our taxes are ridiculous now. We work half of the year to fund programs for all of those who don't (or won't) work. We pay into social security and medicare, both of which will have gone bankrupt long before we are eligible to collect a penny. Yet I watch some hump down the road who went on social security disability because of PTSD from an auto accident towing his bass boat past my house when I'm leaving for work. The federal government exists to defend us and secure our borders. That is all. They do a good job at the first, and have fallen on their face on the second. Everything else should be up to us.
