thanks mark...me too. i suffer with it daily too. i wish i could look in the mirror and see what others see. what i see is a disgustingly fat woman. i am sooooooo prejudiced against fat women because i see in them what i hate in myself.

i'm still that little 8 yr old girl that had her first dance recital with her 6 yr old sister. i'm still that little girl that was yelled at all the way home by mom because she was "embarrased for being the mother of the two little fat girls".

ive made peace with my mom and everything but im still that little girl.

how do i help her grow up???

Try this website. It has some great tools for recovery: http://www.emofree.com. Type in Alcoholism or whatever your substance/behavior was. There's a manual you can download FREE.:heartbeat;)

ty ty ty everyone for all my grats!

i know it's true i just cant believe it still. ME! sober for 5 years!

know how i'm celebrating? lol, i'm going back to my nurse support group i went to when under contract with TNPAP. ive been wallowing in my own self loathing and finally realized (thanks to my wonderful drug/alcohol counselor of a husband) that i need to get back in my group and share.

now matter how sober we get....that self esteem problem still rears it's ugly head at times, huh?

the good thing is this time i didnt turn to drugs to cover the feelings. oh sure, i wallowed in them for a long time, lol..but i didnt get high dammit! but if i dont do something to get out of myself, who knows what i would do?

does anyone else suffer with this even in recovery too?

I call it shame or just that inner self critical voice that can be so devastating. I think it's an issue for all addicts and for sure for us nurses who have gotten into trouble with our respective BON's.

The more aware we are of it and the more we share about it with other safe people, the less likely we are to relapse over it into one addiction or another.

Thanks for bringing it up, southernbeegirl, I can sure relate!
