USA - LPN, CAN - RPN

Would a USA, Pennsylvania; LPN be the equivalent of a CAN,Ontario; RPN? I'm having a tough time deciding between moving to Canada or not because I would not want to go through more education.

Really the only people who can tell you is the college once they have reviewed your transcripts. However LPN is a 2 year course so would your transcripts equate to 2 years?

Practical nurses are called LPNs in most of Canada except in ontario where we are called RPNs. The education is a full two-year program which is based off the old RN diploma program. Depending on where you work and what I've read about how things are in the US, the scope of LPNs/RPNs here is much wider, and more akin to the ADN-prepared RN in the US if you'd like a comparison.

How do you plan to immigrate to Canada? There is no need to import LPNs, we educate enough here.

Reality is there isn't enough full time jobs and the job market isn't the greatest. Our healthcare is publicly funded and the economy isn't that great right now.

How do you feel about belonging to a union. Most nurses are unionized.

Education for nurses is ongoing. It's not like you write CPNRE and never have to study again.
