help!!! does anyone knows how to check the status of my nclex? I took it last Nov 2008 but I never worked in USA. I am currently working here in the Middle East. I want to know if it is still valid? if not, do I have to take NCLEX again?

I'm a little confused. You want to check the status of your NCLEX? You said you took it in November 2008. The status (pass/fail) would be found out by looking at the State BON in the State you registere to be licensed in. That should show if you were ever issued a license (status of NCLEX would be taken and passed). If you were, of course its expired now. If you aren't showing a license that is expired, then I'd say it was status of NCLEX would be taken and failed.

You should contact the Board of Nursing in the state where you hope to live.

Do you have a valid SSN? If not, VT is not an option

I dnt have SSN. So what can I do to work as RN? Im plannig to apply in California.

You cannot endorse the VT license until it's active. To activate you need to provide proof of continuing education and a valid SSN. Once 8 years have passed without practice CABRN requires you retake the NCLEX-RN. Technically CA requires a SSN but reportedly may accept an ITIN in lieu but you need to prove to the IRS why you need an ITIN.

Do you have work rights to come to the U.S.? Do you have an employer with a job for you even without a valid nursing license?

Have you worked as a nurse anywhere? If not the chances of finding a visa sponsor will be very slim. If you were born in Philippines or India the wait for current status for an EB3 visa is over a decade right now due to retrogression. Very few employers are willing to hold a job for over 10 years, especially since there are hundreds of US PR & citizen nurses in CA applying for a single job opening. There is little incentive for a CA employer to go through the time & cost of sponsoring an overseas nurse.

While not impossible, it will be very difficult.

Thank you for all your answers. That shed some light on my confusion, it seems that it cant use my nclex anymore. Maybe I will apply in another country. Maybe USA is not for me.

You don't use "your NCLEX", passing, the NCLEX is one step in the process for licensing. One cannot be licensed if they don't meet all of the requirements of the state board of nursing.
