NMC Processing

World Registration

Published

I've read several posts here regarding the processing of NMC and yes, it was all helpful.

But I just want to share my personal experience and would like to ask anyone from the Philippines who have started or who are still processing theirs.

I've applied for NMC registration (through an agency) last September 2013. I've received my pack 1 after 2 weeks, paid the fee directly to NMC and submitted the requirements through the agency. I was the interviewed and got hired by an NHS hospital (through the same agency) last October 2013.

The thing is, it's already March. Twenty-****-Fourteen. And I'm still waiting for the Pack 2. I'm getting really really hopeless and frustrated as to how and why the NMC is taking so long in sending my packet 2.

I just want to ask anyone who could give an insight to my situation or share the same experience -- especially those who were hired by NHS through Philippine-based agencies.

Does the employer/hospital really willing to wait til you receive your decision letter?

Is it possible to be deployed to UK while you are still waiting for your decision letter?

Recently, I've come across a lot of job ads here in the Philippines regarding employment to UK, but does anyone here knows the true employment situation in the UK? Do they really need Filipino nurses knowing that it can almost take forever processing the NMC decision letter?

I apologize for sounding a little desperate here for answers. But, truth be told, I am quite desperate for answers. So I would deeply appreciate anyone who would respond and share any info. Thanks.

It is my understanding that priority for employment is given to UK and EU citizens. Agencies cannot override immigration regulations no matter how big their promises.

NMC cover the whole of the UK both for UK EU as well as the world. Some have posted here it took over 12 months to be processed

Things are pretty tough in the UK at the moment for the NHS with many trusts going into debt and I know some hospitals have recruited via Spain but not outside the EU as much. Until you meet requirements you can not go to the UK and work.

From what I have gathered you have to have nmc decision or pin number before hospitals can hire foreign nurses.

@callista_05 any updates on your nmc application? How long did it took you to get hold of pack 2?

I just started mine and hopefully it will not be as dreadful as what i have been reading here. I sent the first pack last june 20 via courier and i'd like to take note of the expected time of delivery of pack 2. If you could also share the additional documents being asked for the second pack so that i can prepare them ahead as my original docs are with my agency. I will have to get it from them if need be as i live 9 hrs away from manila. Thank you!

Hi Krisangel, I just got my Pack 2 on the third week of May 2014 - that's roughly a week before my flight for London.

I've had my hospital work experience outside the Philippines, the reason why I had so much delays / why NMC required me to submit some additional documents. If you only had your work experience in our country, those additional papers shouldn't be a problem.

Anyway, my hospital employer here sponsored my working visa (along with the other 29 fellow nurses) even though most of us are still waiting our Pack 2/Decision Letter. So yes, it is possible to go to UK even though you haven't got your decision letter yet.

If you have questions regarding your NMC application, I suggest that you call NMC directly since it usually take at least 2 weeks for them to answer an email.

Thank you so much callista_05! Its cool to know that you were able to go there even if you are just starting with pack 2 (or was it the decision letter? got confused there). More than anything, congratulations! I guess you are already doing your induction?

Right now, im patiently waiting for pack 2 and hopefully, accomplish things the soonest. Thanks again. :-)

Yeah, I was just starting to process my Pack 2 when I left the country.

I had just completed all the required documents this week and it'll take about 1-3 months for the decision letter to be issued. Currently, we are classified as Band 3, but our roles are more like of a student nurse - that is, our responsibilities are limited and we work under direct supervision of a qualified UK nurse. I guess it will continue to be so during our ONPs. We will then proceed to Band 5 nurses roles as soon as we get our NMC PINs.

Anyway, have you read the new policy of NMC? regarding the qualifying exam replacing the whole ONP thing?

Hi there! Have read all of your convos here. Really helpful!

I'm still about to start processing.

Heard of the new alterations.. Even read the guidelines.

Wasn't just that sure if I understood it all right..

So is it still the current ONP thingy which I'll follow once I start applying now or before October?

Or will it depend until I receive the final DL?

Do you have any idea?

THANK YOU!

I am in the same dilemma as you, nmc have yet to clear specifics. The way i understand the guide to transition, applications that were started before October will continue to be processed the old system way, released with DLs and will be required to take ONP. While those with DLs prior to september will have a choice to take the old or new system. But for new applicants starting October will have no other choice but to comply with the.new system, that is, online exam and OSCE. Well...the nmc really gave a complicated instruction there. I hope they will shed some light to our confusion and post a better and clearer update pretty soon. In the meantime, we'll follow the old system. I'll post my first hand experience here once i get there and hopefully a positive story to tell.

Awesome! That's how I understood it too. A little confusing guidelines were posted as of now. We'll just have wait for further info then. Thank you! Hope you'll get all your stuffs positive all the way! :)

I am in the same dilemma as you, nmc have not issued a clear and official advisory regarding the extent of the new reg system. Even if i am already waiting for my second pack, i still have no clue if the new system will affect my application. I hope the nmc will shed some light to our confusion and post a new update pretty soon. In the meantime, we'll follow the old system.

My understanding is if the NMC accept your application before a certain date then you follow the old system. If your application is accepted between a certain date you have the option of either old system or new. If application accepted in the fall then you will follow the new system
