New Nurses to land in Manitoba this 2014. Any piece of advice?

Hello everyone!

It's my first time to post here in this website and I must say, it's very helpful because I've already browsed some threads and I kinda got some idea on what to do when I get to Manitoba. I just want to ask for some help. :) Anyone who'll spare me their precious time will be greatly appreciated :)

I applied for hhe MPNP last June 2013 and I already had my medical exam last May 19, 2014. As of now, there are still no updates regarding my application. Since a friend told me that it won't be that long till they ask for my passport to have my PR visa, I would like to ask if what is the best step to take if I were to get to Manitoba? I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines with 3years experience. Is it advisable to apply for the CRNM exam right away if I land in Manitoba? Or should I try to apply for LPN first so that I'll have a general idea on how the nursing practice goes in Manitoba? Since most of the threads I've read stated that they opted to try LPN first before writing the CRNM.

Hoping you can shed some light on my cloudy mind since I really have no idea what step to take and it's kinda making me worry. Thank you very much for your help! :)

Regardless on which you apply for you really need to start the process now as it can take a long time to go through the process

Hi Silverdragon102! Hmmm, I see. So it's ok to open a file even if I'm still here in the Philippines? Do you know anyone who went to manitoba with the same problem? I was wondering on what job to apply there while waiting for the crnm processing, then the lpn came to my mind. Looks like it also takes time to be processed, so, do you think I should drop the idea of applying to be an lpn while waiting for the crnm? Thank you very much for your reply! :)

Only you can make the decision on whether to go the LPN route before RN route but each process is different and each takes time. We haven't had many post on trying to register with Manitoba so not really sure how long a process it is but the website should offer some idea of processing times. Definitely better to start the process now because if still in the Philippines and problems with paperwork easier to sort out

I see. Maybe I'll just take my time to process the crnm application while im still here since that is my main goal and lpn is just my plan b. Thank you very much for your time! God bless you :)

Hi [COLOR=#003366]Teppy25!

If you don't mind, can I ask you how you processed your papers for Canada? Did you use a consultation agency?

TIA. ;)

You do not need to use a consultation agency and if you feel that you do need one you need to make sure that it has been approved by the Canadian government. The CIC website gives clear instruction on how to complete the paperwork and what the requirements are

Yeah, I've read that here. But I don't want to make mistakes in processing my application since it's already the end of May so I just want to make sure. And honestly, I don't know if I can really do the processing all by myself. ;( I'm a bit scared and running out of time. I'm afraid, the cap will be filled really fast. I also don't know if I can start the process without an IELTS yet.

The application must be complete when sending it in so if English is required you need to get it done. If the application is not complete then it will be returned to you. Agency will charge you $$ and you will be doing all the work. I did my family application myself for FSW a few years ago and the paperwork was self explanatory and easy to complete.

^ Tried sending you a PM, unfortunately I'm not yet allowed. Can I ask you a question about the corresponding points for the IELTS score for the FSW program?

Whenever I read "I want to use an agency because I don't want to make a mistake", I worry. Who will check your work once you are employed?

My family migrated here before there was an internet. Everything and I mean everything was done on paper and through the mail. You made a mistake on your documents, they got sent back and you did it the way it was required.

Agencies are there to make money, not help you.

I also did our immigration paperwork myself (spousal sponsorship). It is mostly self explanatory. There are also several internet forums of people who have been through the process or are going through it. They offer lots of advice as well as help and support each other. Just Google for Canadian immigration forums.

It is a lengthy process and not cheap. Be prepared to wait and be prepared for unexpected expenses as you move and resettle.
