Hello everyone!
It's my first time to post here in this website and I must say, it's very helpful because I've already browsed some threads and I kinda got some idea on what to do when I get to Manitoba. I just want to ask for some help. :) Anyone who'll spare me their precious time will be greatly appreciated :)
I applied for hhe MPNP last June 2013 and I already had my medical exam last May 19, 2014. As of now, there are still no updates regarding my application. Since a friend told me that it won't be that long till they ask for my passport to have my PR visa, I would like to ask if what is the best step to take if I were to get to Manitoba? I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines with 3years experience. Is it advisable to apply for the CRNM exam right away if I land in Manitoba? Or should I try to apply for LPN first so that I'll have a general idea on how the nursing practice goes in Manitoba? Since most of the threads I've read stated that they opted to try LPN first before writing the CRNM.
Hoping you can shed some light on my cloudy mind since I really have no idea what step to take and it's kinda making me worry. Thank you very much for your help! :)
When we moved I thought I'd have no problem getting my license. The requirement was to have graduated from an approved nursing program. I'm from the US so thought my program would certainly be approved (my spouse and many of our friends are Canadian educated nurses who came to the US for nursing jobs and had no problem getting nursing licenses in our state as well as other parts of the US. I thought the favour would be repaid likewise by Canada).
I was informed that my program was 150 theory hours too short. The College of Nurses made me go back and take one more nursing class before giving me a license. What I had expected to be a quick an easy process turned into almost a year and a half and over a thousand dollars in tuition/textbooks. (The process also included a long delay due to a filing error at the College of Nursing).
Like jam_bv15 said, start the process as soon as you can. And as I advised in an earlier post, plan financially for things not going according to plan. I sure never planned on not being able to work as a nurse for a year and a half. Lesson learned the hard and expensive way.

I suggest you apply for credentials assessment as soon as you get here as it is a very long process. I did apply for registration with both CLPNM and CRNM and it took at almost a year for me to get my LPN license and almost 2 years for my RN registration.
