Is it ever ok to quit without notice?

I finally got to my breaking point today and told my office manager I quit. She asked for 2 weeks, but, as she has stooped to supervising my bathroom visits, accusing me of lying, of playing on my phone instead of seeing patients, and pretty much made life unbearable, I don't think I can physically or mentally stand it. I have a job lined up and don't need a reference from her.

I feel if I give the 2 weeks, she will do anything and everything to make it hell on me. She's gone more than she's there, but she knew she had pushed me too far this afternoon when I told her I was done. She made it a point to return to the clinic and ask for a notice. The entire conversation prior to her return was via text message.

I'm done. I'm just DONE!

If she asked for 2 weeks notice, which you offered....u should be good

How bout a suit for harassment, hostile work environment etc?

It is never a good idea to leave without notice...that may be taken as abandonment of patients.

I offered a week. She refused it. I turned it in at the close of business after I had seen everyone and cleared all my charts.

I was under no contract that specified the length of notice required.

i have an unholy fear of retribution, and have already emailed the nursing board to inform them of the situation. I have a copy of my resignation letter.

Hello I wanted to be if assistance. I don't know what state you practice in, but in California we have so many laws protecting employees from this type of harassment. I'm an office manager at a very busy family practice. We serve a very undeserved community. I work with N.P's and P.A's. I would never do what your O.M is doing. For one thing you have a real case of employer harassment. You also are being caused distress from the stress she's putting you through. Her request of your leaving your cellphone is unethical. You are being treated in a very unprofessional manner. Seriously, she is way out if line. You should not quit, you should threaten her with filing a law suit with The Department of Employment.

As for record request being ignored that's neglecting the well being of the patient. As for patient referrals, how long do they have the pts waiting? This clinic needs to be reported. Call and make an anonymous report to the HMOs. The ones who suffer end up being the patients. Best of luck to you. I would get out if there if I were in your shoes.

Get out!!! I am also in a similiar situation in my clinic but it's the PCTs that run the show! I am tightening up my shoe strings to sprint as soon as I obtain something else. I have never in all my born days seen so much unprofessionalism and low class that it makes me wanna swallow my own vomit. I'm just playing it cool until I'm delivered from Eygpt. Take care and keep us posted on your new job.

If I had quit without notice everytime I wanted to, nobody would ever hire me.

There is a "get even" element to that action that simply comes back to bite you, no matter how good it feels for the moment.

In the big picture 2 weeks is just 6 shifts.

I think since you already have another job lined up giving less than two weeks doesn't matter. Hopefully you've said your goodbyes already to your favorite patients or had letters sent out? Not sure how that works.

Good luck with the new job and for future happiness-you definitely deserve it!
