ANCC or AANP Exam - Which to take???

Specialties NP

Published

I am about to graduate and do not know which FNP exam to take. Both the AANP and ANCC are now computer based - that was the big difference between them. Anyone have any advise? Which exam did you take?

Thank you!

I took both the ANCC and the AANP certification. They were both pretty well rounded. Neither had a whole lot of growth and development which a lot of test takers devote a fair amount of time toward. I think the ANCC was easier than the AANP. If you have a job lined up and you needs your test results in a timely manner, take the ANCC. I got results back in 4 days. The AANP lets you know immediately after answering the last question your prelim results (It will say: Your prelim score indicates you have passed), but getting those results on paper will take nearly 4-8 weeks. If you have any other questions send me a message.

I'm curious, why did you take both ANCC and AANP?

Has anyone taken either of these RECENTLY? As in 2006?

I took ANCC. Dont know there is any difference.

Bump.

I came here looking for the same answer. I'll be graduating in Dec with my adult np degree. I already have a job lined up post graduation, but can't determine which certification to sit for. Does it matter? Pros/Cons? Is one supposedly easier than the other?

I was told by my faculty advisor & director of FNP program to take ANCC as this indicates you have a Masters. I believe (someone please confirm) that the other exam does not require Masters.

The AANP exam is for Master's prepared NPs in Adult and Family Practice. But, NPs in other disiciplines may petition to sit for the exam.

I, too, suggest the ANCC examination.

I will be graduating in May, Adult NP. I was thinking of signing up for both exams. Any advice would be appreciated.
