The Mockery of Nursing

Nurses Relations

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

Maybe there need to be a disclaimer on this forum.

"This site may not be suitable for all bloggers. pre-nursing students, new nurses, read at your own risk"

You can't relate, so of course you view this as belittling.....but you will be just fine. BUT, first things first. GET ACCEPTED INTO A PROGRAM....study....grad....pass the NCLEX...get a job....then HOP ON BOARD WITH US....

You are definitely on the right track....

Which "US" do you reference?

It will be in your best interest to know (as I'm sure your experience has taught you) that not all nurses are old bats--pardon, "seasoned"-- nor are all nurses bitter--pardon, enjoy "having fun" at the expense of others. If you reference the "us" to mean experienced nurses that have an ax to grind, sorry to disappoint but I won't be hopping on board with YOU, and company.

Fortunately YOU, et al are not a true reflection of the majority within the profession, and thankfully so.

SNL would never have made it if the general public had such a distaste for satire. If it offends you, there is a little arrow in the upper left hand corner of your computer screen that will take you back to the previous page. There is also an x in the upper right hand corner that will free you from the offending posts altogether.

*I*, like you, am free to read, comment and express opinions (in a respectful manner, of course, which the entire nature of this thread is not) whenever and wherever *I* deem fit.

Don't you just love the freedom of expression? :)

Not all of the posters on here are seasoned nurses... I am a new grad with years of medical experience prior to going for my RN. I do not take offense at the posts regarding new nurses, as I see a lot of this mentality among my fellow new grads. This thread is for letting off steam, and I frankly think it's hilarious... But then, I've always loved dark/morbid humor and have never been afraid to laugh at myself :lol2:

Another thing I love about this thread -- it's teaching me what NOT to do as a new grad and to listen to those who have more experience so that I can become the best darn nurse I can. THAT is priceless :D

Hello Esteemed Colleagues,

I am a recent BSN graduate of U of X, a prestigious academic institution of excellent quality, and recognized first and foremost as one of the most superb institutions of higher learning in the nation. I have graduated Summa Cum Laude, was a privileged member of the Ipso Facto Erupto Flatus sorority and received the highest marks possible in my coursework, and the most outstanding recognition possible for my magnificent and sublime performance in clinical practicums.

I would like to articulate my considered opinion that the august profession of nursing is facing a downward slide into mediocrity due to the influx of low class and ignorant workers into an arena that in previous years was revered for it's venerated contributions to the hallowed practice of compassionate care to the ill and infirm members of society.

....................

Ugh. Enough already, I'm exhausted, I can't go on with this............my thesaurus has run out of big words.

it's not that we beat up on new and inexperienced grads as a class. if you read the posts carefully, you will see that the ones that get the most scathing responses are those that show the most cluelessness about how things work. this is not to say that all new ideas or education is unwelcome by a bunch of hidebound old bats who reflexively say "that's not the way we do it here." we were all new once, and some of us drove change in useful and productive ways as new people precisely because we did have recent education. it does mean that someone who figuratively bounces into the space with little understanding of the prevailing culture is likely to get some sort of warning about it, the same way a new kitten gets hissed at by the older ones. part of learning your profession is becoming socialized into its culture, and those who don't figure that out will get hissed at until they do. :D

the rest of it is all just regular folks in a high-powered job blowing off steam. sticks and stones and all that.

Okay, I admit, this was sort of funny.....:p

I just want to say that I fall into the category of several groups who have been "made fun of" in this thread and I don't take any offense whatsoever. I haven't worked as a nurse yet, currently a pre-nursing student (completing core for RN bridge), and I'm an unemployed LPN. But if I can't laugh at myself, and yes, even the stereotype others may see me as, I think I'd be taking life too seriously. I don't take any of this personally and I certainly don't take it to heart. The "crusty old bat" nurses are hilarious to me, and I like seeing what ticks them off so that I hopefully never do those things and am repsectful of the professionalism of those who have been there and done that. I sympathize with the students and the newbie nurses because I know exactly how they feel. When I read some of their posts about things that are going wrong, I share their hurt and embarassment. We all come to allnurses to be closer to those with a mindset similar to our own. I'm sure everybody doesn't always get along or agree, but that's just life. It's how you deal with it that matters.

Belittling a selective group of people - pre-nursing students, nursing students, new nurses -- is what folks consider having fun??

Riveting.

If you read the thread carefully, you'd have noticed that no one is spared in this thread. However, there are only so many threads you can see about some of these topics before you start to think, "What the heck?"

@ 2bEssqtoRN.....i peeped your profile, and saw you have "bazillion" posts, all directed at appying to different nursing programs around the country!! But i guess folx do apply to where ever they can get in. Are you in a program?? We are not old bats.......consider us "seasoned".....LOL:thankya:

Au contraire...I love the "old bat" moniker, and am proud to wear it.

*sigh* Oh for the day when I become a crusty old bat...

See, I went a different way. I pictured a critter that was a bee at one end, a dog at the other....

I can see that -- but it might be a tad too Frankenstinian - oh wait a minute! We're talking about that "old" eating "young" thing that hardly anyone mentions every other minute here. No rules there lol!! I'm going to up the ante and add an antagonist I shall call Super Pre-Nurse! Swoops in as Defender of the helpless pre-nurses, SNs and NGs they imagine are sobbing so hard they can't get it togeher enough to type of their pain. Is there a hint of condescention in their rescue swoop? Tune in in the next 10 minutes to find out!

If this type of thread is allowed to carry on for pages on end, perhaps us "pre-nursing" "immature" youngins would be in our right to create something similar, but this time label it "The Mockery of Old Bats in Nursing".

I'm strongly considering it.

Oh no! Not that!!! I'm guessing you aren't a frequent visitor here.
