Please be nice to your aides.

Nurses Relations

Published

I have just finished my clinicals as a CNA, I am a PLT as well. I decided to stop for now and work as a Medical Assistant, a sort of "short cut" at my age of 40. I hold a 4.0 GPA and have 45 college credits, I can do wound care and test blood glucose, I can also bathe, feed and the hands on care that many RNs, and LVNs feel they are too good to do anymore. I can do stress tests, breathing test, strep, cultures and then take them to the lab and test them. I wipe away the tears of the elderly that cry for you and that many ignore. So if you are not one of these hellish nurses who have forgetten to check themselves at the door, please be nice. The aides are the ones who the family respects and often loves. I never plan to work as a CNA because I would have to put many haughty "nurses"in their place and would end up fired more often than not.

I dont claim to be superior, because I dont view any of you as superior. It matters not in this profession how well you are loved, but how well you love and tolerate others. Many of you dont deserve the wages you reap. I am sorry, but a slip a paper doesnt warrant the exhorbinate wages you get. The ones who deserve that wage are the nurses in hosiptals. The ones in nursing homes simply do not. Sorry, you just dont. You took the easy way out.

So just because some bully nurse treated you like dirt when you were a student, or you resent their youth and enthusiasm or vitality, or you resent having to teach them for 23 bucks an hour, I say...cheer up! Your never out of a job, you have made a choice to work long shifts, so dont call it sacrifice. Its work. Good old fashioned work. I waited until my kids were in Jr, and Sr. high. Its possible. Especially if your husband makes plenty of money to live off of.

Please be nice, because these young women you are pushing around really dont deserve it. You are not out there wiping butts, and puke and being groped hourly by old men.

This is why I cant work with a bunch of hens. You act as if no nurse, in the history of nursing is exactly as I describe. If I witnessed this then it happened.

I am not jealous. I like working M-F from 8 am to 5 pm. With an hour for lunch. I also make 19.75 an hour as a medical assistant. See they way you jump all over me. Its the same day after day working with women. Why are you all such backbiters. Cant you just admit I am right, in some things and wrong in others. Berating me does no good. I dont envy your hours, the filth you encounter. All I said is BE NICE TO YOUR AIDES> you bring half the young girls to tears. There is no need. You are "professionals" right. And I am not impressed with record keeping as a legit part of the RN. All they did at the home was eat, hide in the lounge and occasionally check Facebook. Perhaps this is not the case in every place but it is the case in some.

Act your age. This is my first post.

Nurses often assume an awful lot about people. Like presuming someone is coming to the ER for meds. It is not your place to judge, and you work under the Drs. license. I am 40 mind you and raised my kids first. I do have an accurate and appropriate view of lets say.......45% of nurses. I have raised three sons, I have been around drs and nurses and blood and gore and guts since 1991. Many of your were just born then. I dont need a stupid piece of expensive paper to say I am equipt to handle emergencies. I am working for a Drs office because I cant work with nurses. Obviously. I cant even post around them

Wow. You do know that nurses have their own license and are overseen by the Board of Nursing and do not "work under" a doctor's license. Different disciplines, and we work together.

And no, your description does not describe 45% of nurses. I have worked with some lazy nurses (AND lazy aides for that matter) but they have always been the minority.

Please tell me that you did not in the same post say "act your age" and resort to name calling.

Yes, there are nurses that are lazy. There are techs that are lazy, there are doctors that a lazy, etc.

The people you want to give this message to probably will not be found on all nurses. Most of the people that come here care about the work we do, or we wouldn't spend our off time discussing nursing issues.

Why would you come to a forum for nurses, just to tell us how horrible we all are, LOL?

If you want people to take you seriously, then try starting a constructive conversation.

The only person you've made look bad in your post, is, well....You...

It's a two way street. I try very hard to rarely ask my aides to do anything extra, but just yesterday, while in an isolation room and not wanting to get out of gown/glove/mask, I asked a passing aide to grab a couple things for me to change a dressing, and she rolled her eyes and walked away.

I couldn't do an aides job, and I admit that freely. I never was a CNA/STNA and I never would be. I compliment my aides often and always dive in and help on those messy clean up jobs.

But coming on a nursing board and basically lambasting all of nurses to 'check themselves' because you yourself are competent enough to swab someones nose and then carry it to a lab is really, just...reinforcing why people act the way they do.

What was reason why you started this thread? To bash nurses or to genuinely reach out and say nurses should treat aides better? Sorry you've had bad interactions with nurses but to come on a nursing website and bash nurses is cruel. So don't be surprised at the responses.

Start a constructive and non judgmental thread (with no name calling) about how nurses and aides should work together. It may get you the responses you were looking for.

Don't judge who often IS a drug seeker, but yet here you are judging. We alll judge. some are just more open about it..........You clearly have no idea what you are talking about with regards to licensure and nursing. NURSES DO NOT WORK under an MD/DO license. You don't need a piece of paper to handle emergencies. ok then next time someone needs intubation or a chest tube go at it... after all, all the md has is a piece of paper or two on you...... same with nurses and our scope of practice. Not my fault I am at a higer salary since nearly half your age and chose not to have children. I think someone is trolling, but people DO THINK stuff like this lol.

There are a FEW aides I love to work with. Most to all of those are pre med or nursing students. They are very smart and UNDERSTAND that nurses do more than what it seems. The amount i Have to chart to LEGALLY protect myself and also keep pt safe is more than most non nurses or doctors can imagine. Seriously. The easiest part of my job is wiping butts and changing diapers. Should I let my septic pt continue to deteroriate, or ignore the blood sugar of 34 because , god forbid, i ask an aide to help change that pt.

I sometimes say, " while i give this pt IV meds , can you please do this?" Why should I even have to say it? With the aides that are good at their job they know that I run my butt doing things . so when i need help, help me and don't resent the fact that i make 3 times what you make for it.... I am not a lazy nurse , too good to wipe butts, or feed pts etc. ....( a nurse and some aides are smart enough to know that you must prioritize and delegate. I can do EVERYTHING you can do , but you can not legally nor are you ACCOUNTABLE to do everything i MUST do ).

I will get vitals, change pts, bathe pts, that are not my assignment to help some of the aides. Yes, there are lazy nurses but in my expereince I have seen more lazy aides.... because, I think, of less accountability..... some people just have a poor work ethic, i don't have to have worked sicne 1991 ( way too young for that!!!!!!) to know it!

Wow you are assuming a lot in your posts and down right insulting. You could have worded your complaint in a much better way that didn't include putting down people that worked hard for a degree.

I and many of my coworkers value techs and treat them with respect because we are on the same team. I've worked in LTC and took an aide assignment when we were short and I'm not the only nurse that has. I'm sorry you had bad experiences with nurses but you sound like the bitter hens you so despise.

As a hospital employee, I do not work for the doctors, they can make a complaint to management, but they can not issue a formal reprimand.

My expensive piece of paper makes me solely responsible for my actions. If you mess up as a MA, the doctor will take the fall. If an RN or LPN screws up, the patient can sue the nurse.

You seems to believe you know more about NURSING than you actually do. Seems some education would be beneficial for you before you start spewing misinformation.

I usually do not make many responses. Your condescending attitude is unbecoming, especially since you quite obviously lack the knowledge regarding the roles of healthcare providers.

I'm going to call troll at this point just trying to stir the pot with uneducated babble.

Has anyone actually reported the post yet? I will if no one else has. The only intent here is to start a fight.

I didn't. I didn't know you could do that, LOL.
