we all just called her Filet(sp)

I'm not a nurse, but i knew of a mom who named her newborn "Placenta"- for a girl, How sad. The mom had no idea what it was.

Just off the top of my head I remember we had twins.....Hunter and Fisher (family was super nice...and really out-doorsy!)

Girl twins......Willow and Azalea (with unique middle names too, but I can't remember them)

and a cute little guy named Tommy .......whose last name was Hawk. :)

Here's a list of a few of the babies I've met over the years. What amazes me is how well educated, downright likeable, some of these parents were.

1. Leon & Noel (male & female twins, since they are opposites mom spelled Leon backwards for Noel...or maybe, it was Noel for Leon....)

2. Danger S. (the S stand for Sebastian)

3. Lord Atticus Von Dugen

4. Bastian & Atreyu (twins named for "Neverending story" characters)

5. Layaway

6. Egyptain Pyramid

7. Panda

10. Siegel & Saylor (female twins, pronounced Seagull & Sailor)

12. Ja'Mes (pronounced Jay-meese)

13. Richard (mom wanted it pronounced Rich-chard)

15. Grey (interracial marriage, black + white = grey)

17. Espn (pronounced Espen...yes, after the sports station. We've actually had TWO babies with this name!)

18. Abcde (several of these a few years ago, pronounced Ab-si-dee)

19. Nevaeh (Heaven backwards)

20. Quads: Maria Isabella, Maria Isanella, Maria Isella, and Felix

Maybe we should all study law so that we can represent some of these kids when they sue for child abuse some day. ;)

i try to talk with the parent if is is really rediculous . i try to point out that you need to think about how it is going to sound if you child becomes president. then, if that does not work i just say "you know she will never be able to go to the store and find preprinted pen, pencils or anything else with her name on. think how sad she will feel" this usually works because the parent ,most of the time has a rediculous name also and knew what it was like never finding a pencil with their name on. amazing what the mention of a pencil will do. they don't care about the fact that getting a job with a rediculous name is even harder!!!:angryfire

i didn't think about the pencil thing, but my own children: katrina and shayla can never find pencils with their names on them:sniff:. my mother-in-law had to order them for christmas one year.

They pronounce that as Ashley?? That poor child, nobody is ever going to guess that :(

I took care of a 6 year old in clinical and his name was spelled Jonathan. I walked in the room, where he and his mom were, and said "Hi, Jonathan, I'm going to be your nurse today," etc. His mom crossed her arms and said "HIS NAME IS Joe Nathan not Jonathan!" Poor kiddo. I don't understand why she couldn't have just named & spelled his name Joe Nathan. Who would assume a name spelled like that is anything other than Jonathan?
