Westchester Community College-Applying for Fall 09

U.S.A. New York

Specializes in I was the Assistant to the DON.

Okay long story short...I am 29 just graduated from Dutchess CC with an AS in General Studies (was their for 4 years and just wanted OUT)..SO I never put my all in because I had too much going on..ya know blah blah...so I have 2.2 GPA (ouch). I got put into the Nursing program afterwards (this is what I now know I want to do finally). I was sooo scared to make the leap and decision...so here we are.

HOWEVER, there are only approx. 25 spots EACH semester for clinicals, yup thats right. And about 900 Nursing students! They don't tell you this when you "sign up", The dept head was honest, she said she saw my passion however she said I would be waiting 5 years to start clinicals, or 10 if I went part time! Well I don't have that time and I have been denied any more financial aid because of my grades.

SO, I am planning on going to WCC in the fall :) Any advice? I see they have a new Night/Evening-Weekends program! SO PERFECT for me :) I won't mind the drive.

Anyone else applying for Fall 2009? I am so excited to to finally diving in and making this happen. I hope to find some nice new friends for support along the way (especially mommies of toddlers :)

Please respond if you did their nursing program? I am curious where you are now post graduation?

Thanks!

Hi there,

I would like to know did you make into the nursing program at WCC? I was considering it for next year. Thank you in advance.

FINALLY! I knew someone on here had to have heard of WCC, haha! Well I am having a hard time now because I called the teacher for the night/evening program. She said yes it is competitive but my bad GPA shouldn't hurt me too bad because they place students based on their TEAS score, so I bought a book and have been studying for that.

She also said I need to do ANT & Py I&II AND Nutrition before they will admit me. They only admit every Fall, which would mean I most likely have to wait until Fall 2010 now! I could take these classes over the summer (online), but the money would have to come from my own pocket and I don't really have it now. I don't want to wait another year, BUT I also don't want to rush to complete classes and end up doing bad in them.

Are you in Westcheter, where do you live? Were you planning on day or night? It would be great to have a nursing buddy! Keep in touch!

Yes, I am in Westchester. I am actually taking a few courses right now....Sociology, Pre-Algebra (i am bad and rusty in math). Right now I take my classes at the Mount Vernon location....this is actually closer to where I live. I was considering their nurse program, I want to do day classes. I was not aware that they only admit in the fall. Say, do you know if more math is needed besides the Pre-Algebra? Do you know who I can speak to regarding the day program?

Anyways, at least you have more time to prepare yourself. I too am doing this out of pocket.

Hang in there!

Here click on this...there are two different people for the day programs (whether you are going for LPN or RN). Click on the Nursing program and the phone number for the person are right on top(right). I left her a message and she called me back, which surprised me.

You can also call admissions and they will mail you all the info, but be warned they are SOO rude!

While checking the NLNAC website to make sure the schools I was applying to are accredited, WCC was not on it :uhoh3: I find this very odd

Yes, that is odd. Thought it was?

Of course they are its part of the New York State (SUNY) system. They must have just "missed" it. I have changed my mind, I am going for the RT program instead. Good Luck to you all.

Trying...

Whats the RT program?

I believe RT is Radiology Tech
