Westchester Community College-Applying for Fall 09

Published

Okay long story short...I am 29 just graduated from Dutchess CC with an AS in General Studies (was their for 4 years and just wanted OUT)..SO I never put my all in because I had too much going on..ya know blah blah...so I have 2.2 GPA (ouch). I got put into the Nursing program afterwards (this is what I now know I want to do finally). I was sooo scared to make the leap and decision...so here we are.

HOWEVER, there are only approx. 25 spots EACH semester for clinicals, yup thats right. And about 900 Nursing students! They don't tell you this when you "sign up", The dept head was honest, she said she saw my passion however she said I would be waiting 5 years to start clinicals, or 10 if I went part time! Well I don't have that time and I have been denied any more financial aid because of my grades.

SO, I am planning on going to WCC in the fall :) Any advice? I see they have a new Night/Evening-Weekends program! SO PERFECT for me :) I won't mind the drive.

Anyone else applying for Fall 2009? I am so excited to to finally diving in and making this happen. I hope to find some nice new friends for support along the way (especially mommies of toddlers :)

Please respond if you did their nursing program? I am curious where you are now post graduation?

Thanks!

Well its actually RC...Respiratory Care program, to be a RT (respiratory therapist)...I am soooo excited!!

Good For You!

All the best to you also!!!:coollook:

Hey! I am in your same boat... I emailed you using your yahoo chat email. Read and respond if you can!

Hello! I just moved to the NY area and am interested in enrolling in WCC's Respiratory Therapy program. Did you get into it easily or is there a long wait like there is for the nursing program?

WCC nursing program. are you prepared to get top 50 out of 1000? WCC is the top program around the NYC area. I wish everyone the best, but if you are not close to the duchess program, then WCC might be a reach for you. then again, what do I know? apply to everything you have a chance for, but WCC is way harder then Dutchess CC.

Does anyone know the process of admissions for the nursing program?? They sent out the acceptance letters this week and i am hearing that some people have to go for an interview? Does everyone have to go for an interview? If you get an interview are you accepted?

Thanks!!

I went to one of their seminars about 3 weeks ago, the prof. giving the info about their nursing programs basically said, if your called for an interview most likely you are in the program.

Thanks! That is good info- I have an interview in 2 weeks so im nervous to see what will happen after that.

Well here is all the information I got from traveling over an hour away to WCC. I got into the R.Therapy program, but ANYONE can get in. Why? Its just that way. They don't check your grades or anything. BUT the wait list is HUGE!! I am number 177, yup so do the Math...they only accept 30 people every Fall-so yeah 5 years!! OMG! He said more like 3 years, possibly would start clinicals in 2012...oh my. So I REALLY don't want to do nursing, but since there are like 100 seats open every Fall, as long as I do almost perfect on the Nursing Entrance Exam, then I am in right away. So I plan to take my ANT&PHY (all I have left) and take the Nursing exam just to see what I get, and I will decide from there.

The advisor I spoke to said the Radiology program is by far the hardest to get into there...he said they look at all your grades and you need to sit in front of the board and get inteviewed! Thanks but no thanks, haha.

I am attending the nursing program at WCC this fall (2009), is there anyone else attending out there???

Hi-

Quick Question.. Since the WCC is not accredited by the CCNE or the NLNAC does this mean that I will have a hard time getting into a Master's program to become a NP or will I have a hard time finding a job? Please let me know.

Thanks!

You won't find a hard time getting a job...WCC's program is well known and respected in lower Westchester and in the city. However, you are kinda jumping gun where the who Master's prgram/NP thing is concerned. WCC is an ASN program. You will have to go back and then get your BSN and then apply to a MSN prgram. There are some program that go from BSN(for those who have the RN license)-MSN straight. However, you would most likely have to complete your BSN first for the majority of programs.
