Hello All,

(((( NYC area )))))

Anyone who has worked here or has information on : Weill Medical College of Cornell University : would be greatly appreciated. Work experience, benefits, environment, commute. Anything you can share would be SuPeR!:heartbeat I'd like to get a feel for this Medical Center, as I have high hopes to try and "get in" when I finish up my schooling - RN baby :nurse:......

It seems hard to get into a hospital environment, so I am wondering if there are tips or suggestions on gaining the experience prior to becoming a nurse. Such as admin work and sorts...:thnkg: So if you can help me and anyone else that reads this that would be great you can even pm me :luvnltr: I love mail :D

So, hopefully I won't go to crazy :dzed: researching and hoping and planning all before I start classes up in Jan. I :redbeathe the challenge though!!!

Are you talking about the college or the hospital? Rt now New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell hospital is on a hiring freeze. I currently work there as an LPN and in school for my RN. The benefits are good the tuition reimbursement is 10,000 per year if goin back for nursing (RN,BSN, MA or NP) not bad at all. I work in one of the clinics so i wk 5 days per wk 7-3. The floors have 12hr shifts wich is great. Hope I helped a lil bit.

I currently get paid 42,000 as an administrative assistant (nothing related to the medical field) and I am looking for something in the same salary range "in the medical field" without the degree for the moment until I graduate. Ohh boy, it seems like its an uphill struggle:omy:. Well, I'll keep looking and compiling my resources... Hopefully, I'll get lucky hehe. Thanks again so much!!! :heartbeat

There is no hiring freeze. I'm currently looking for a job. I applied on-line and they contacted me last week. I've learned that even when there is a hiring freeze, it's never for long!

I applied to the CTICU (cardio thoracic ICU). There definitely is definitely a slowing down in the hiring process right now in NYC. I've been talking to Nurse Recruiters and they're telling me that new grads are having a hard time getting jobs....DON'T WORRY JUST YET. The only piece of advice that I can give is to be a little less selective. Going back when I applied out of school almost 2 years ago, I was able to pick and choose my hospital and unit. Now, unfortunately, with the recession, you really need to take whatever is available. Good luck and let me know if there's anything else I can help with!

Just a little update on the whole hiring freeze situation....it's happening! HHC (Health and Hospital Corp) which are NYC public hospitals just announced a hiring freeze. All other hospitals seem to be "slowing down". I guess they don't like the phrase "hiring freeze". I know that Mt. Sinai is definitely hiring.....keep looking and be persistent. Just a piece of advice to new grads (or anyone looking for work): about 2 years ago I interviewed with Cornell as a new grad. I accepted a position at NYU instead of Cornell because they offered me the unit I wanted....well, it seems that Cornell hasn't forgotten. They won't even give me an interview because the same nurse recruiter is still there! She called me and basically told me off for accepting the other position (before I could even call her to tell her) so I guess she either flagged my resume or remembered my name....BEWARE!:eek: I am very angry :angryfireand haven't figured out how to proceed from here. Any advice?

That's pretty tacky and juvenile of the recruiter--not to mention unprofessional... don't let it get you down: from what I hear, her behavior is rare (fortunately)
