Taking Nursing 112 at BMCC, any veterans care to chip in.?.

Any veterans who took nursing 112 at BMCC care to chime in and recommend what is the best way to study for the exams that will be administered? I heard that critical thinking is crucial, but can anyone mention some good text or resource to use for study besides the textbook of course?

Thanks,

Hi FutureRN19, I want to thank you for your help. I emailed the Professor of the online course dep't. Waiting for a response. MAT 104 is not available. When did you take it? Fall, Spring? They will have psy240 avail in spr 08 and sum 08. I want to take microb and anat&p II on campus and psy240 and Mat104 on line. Some of the professors are not available in the spr08 or on my available time. I'll have to take my chances. I am available for classes tues, thurs, and fri.

Hi there,

I took Mat 104 last Semester in Spring 07. I am currently taking Psy 240 online, and i love it. One very important tip: DO NOT GO BY COURSE SCHEDULE BECAUSE THE DEPARTMENTS CHANGE PROFESSORS AT THE LAST MINUTE. BEST THING TO DO IS EMAIL THE PROFESSORS DIRECTLY TO KNOW WHICH CLASSES THEY ARE TEACHING, and go ahead and take Mat104 and Psy 240 online. They are much better and easier than going to class! I would recommend it! also I have Prof Slavin this semester and he's great!! email him to find out which sections he'll be teaching next semester, usually he teches on TUes Thurs 5:30-8:15 pm. Thats when I have him this semester for APII, and im taking Micro also now(I got the department's permission to take Macro wit APII) with Nguyen and email him also! and funny thing Im also taking classes only on Tues, Thurs and Fri and the Psy 240 online!! Good luck!

Myleena,

I've already graduated, but clinicals I had were at Lenox Hill, Metropolitan, Bellevue and Woodhull(in Brooklyn), some of these more than once. They use other hospitals as well, most are NYC HHC hospitals, you can check them out online if you're interested. When you start NUR 112, the first couple of "clinical" days are spent at school practicing skills, after that it's off to the hospital and real live patients.

I too hope to get into the Spring '08 clinical at BMCC. I did well in pre-clins so I hope nothing goes wrong.

Any books I can buy now to get a head start?? Thanks!!

No, there is not waiting list in BMCC. As long as you have the 4 pre-reqs and Micro, Dev psy if ur going for evening and have a GPA above 3.7 you should be good

hi there, this Q is for futureRN19:

I am a pre-nursing student here at LaGCC and am looking at BMCC as one of my transfer choices. I've been emailing + calling the college to find out if they are still taking in application for the Spring 08 session and they have neither replied/called me back. I'm planning to make a visit soon but before i do so, to save time(since it is very far from where i live)...can u tell me if they are since i presume u are still at BMCC.

Secondly, i've heard they offer eve classes as well, is that more/less difficult to get into as compared to the day? Also, when u say one needs to finish the pre reqs + Micro bio,dev psy if going to eve program, does that mean i should be done with these courses when i am applying for candidacy in or can i expect to finish them by summer eg. if clinical program starts in fall.

and what about the anatomy part 2 ..should i be done with that too?

i shall be highly obliged if u help me with these queries.

hi there,

They are still taking application for Spring 08. So you should make a visit here anytime soon. Yes they do offer evening classes here. and they are not much but slightly easier to get in because the Evening Nursing Program GPA requirement is 3.70 and for the day its 3.72. Another thing You need to have these courses completed before you can get into the Evening program: AP 2, Micro, Dev Psy. which means you can apply in the same semester as you are taking these courses just like I am taking them. I am taking these courses now and I applied in Nov, but they will let me know of their decision after they get my grades in the beginning of january. and I dont know if you already took the 4 preclinical courses(Eng1, Math104, AP1,Psy100), and if you have the GPA's I described earlier. and if you meet these requirements then they will change your major to Preclinical Student, which means you can now apply.

-Good Luck

I actually made a visit to BMCC yesterday morning and got to learn about what u've written here. However, I'd still like to thank you for at least responding. THANK YOU.

What came like a bolt to me was learning that I would have to repeat my MAt 104 because BMCC doesn't accept MAT taken elsewhere including a CUNY school like mine. It sucks coz I have already completed this course with an A grade here. What was more distressing was learning that although I could come in the Spring 08 I'd have to be a liberal arts student for a semester, finish the MAt in spring and only in the following semester that is in Fall be eligible to apply for candidacy. That pretty much means if I get accepted thereafter ,can only begin my clinical in Spring 09. :(

I'm hoping the person who gave me this info was not thinking straight then (just for my solace, she was really nice but am surprised how this info is not included in the school's catalog for transfer:idea: )...anyway would like to ask u coz i forgot to ask her.

Is there some dept, I can go in order to have them allow me for candidacy application in same time when am expecting to finish the pre-reqs?

i.e come in spring ,take mat 104 &apply for candidacy at same time N not wait till fall.

Good that you went and asked all the info. Answering ur question, No you can not apply in the same semester as you are taking the mat 104. The reason being is that they wouldn't know your grades until the end of semester. After you finish mat 104, and get good grades on it, then you can go to the Nursing Department (in june) to (Mr. Sierra-the preclinical coordinator) and he will change ur major from Lib arts to Pre-clinical Nursing. Then u can apply in (NOV) Fall 08 for Spring 09.

I also have a friend going to laguardia, The GPA over there is 3.8 , I mean its almost very similar to BMCC. and Also One very Important thing I want to tell you, The GPA currently is 3.7 and 3.72, But it changes every semester, so the GPA requirement will be different for Spring, for which I compete for. So make sure of the new GPA requirement this January before enrolling here!

Hi Nurse 212,

I just posted a thread for advice and hope you could give me some. It's under "getting the run around".

Hi Optimistic1,

I posted a thread under "getting the run around", Please check it out need advice. No one can answer a simple question at BMCC. I am frustrated and stressed out.

myleena

Thank you for all your advice. Are you almost finished with the clinicals? How was it? Which professor did you have? I plan on picking the afternoon hours, I hope the college lets me. I don't want the morning or evening. Did you have to wait after you did your prerq's to start the clinicals? How long? I know it's been a while since my last post been dealing with personal things. I will however start in Jan 09. I plan on taking AnatPhyII in class and Math for healthsciences (online) Then, Microbiology in class and Dev Psy in Sept. Do you think that the college will allow me to add art classes as well? I like to paint and draw. I have no electives. I am wondering if me taking 2 classes each semester will affect my GPA to get into the RN Program. Any Advice will help. Whats your status now? I know you Aced all your classs. Nursing is hard but, it's rewarding in many ways. I work as a Medical Asssitant and it can be rough at times but, I love the feeling of making patients happy and comfortable. Some people say I shoild be a Patient Advocate. Well, if you think about it that's what nurses are.
