Wow, I started that thread a looong time ago, it's been a couple of years, ha. I finally managed to get a CNA job offer but it didn't pay well since I didn't have much expereience so I declined the offer. I moved on and ended up getting another position in a hospital and so I stopped looking. Hope you get something soon though!:)

I have a few ideas: 1) Getting an RN from a community college is the best way to go since the tuition is low and an RN degree is always an RN degree anywhere in the country. So if you can't afford your first choice for RN school, then go CC. I do and love it!! 2) I can't afford to stay 4-6 years in school trying to get a BSN without working since I too am doing the loan thing this year. So I am going to school for my 2yr RN, at a local CC and will start working after I graduate and pay off some of the loans. 3) After graduating, many hospitals/unions in my area (New York City) will offer some sort of tuition reimbursement/loan assitance and/or incentives for me to get my 4yr RN which I will run to take advantage of. "Fsaav" and "RNWannabe724" have posted before me and have similar plans to take advantage of tuition reimbursment offered to RN's in many hospitals and medical facilities countrywide. I saw the same show you did last night and they actually had a scene with my school (BMCC, NY) in the background so that was cool. Also remember the scene with the twins? That was sweet, he's their uncle! Anyway, it's a very high functioning disorder and you may not notice it right away in some persons. I read the wiki piece on Asperger's online and it's very interesting.

OMG!!!!!!!!! I AM SOOOOO INNNNN!!!!!!!!!! Yay!! FutureRN19 where are you? I got in too. One of the secretary's called me and I rushed to school to go pick up the package. They called me on 1/4/08 on my birthday!!! Congrats FutureRN19 and hope we can get through it successfully!!

I agree, do not go into work!! DO NOT go into work!! Forget the guilt, think about how guilty you will feel when patients with already compromised immune systems become increasingly ill because of you. Most improtant, remember that someone will always be there to take care of the patients but who is taking care of YOU? You can only help others after helping yourself! Be safe and hope you feel better.

You also going to BMCC NYdreamer? No, I think you are going somewhere else right? LIU? Anyways, I got the answer everybody. I called BMCC for the millionth time and finally got someone Ms. L*. She transferred me right away to Mr. S* who told me that applicants are notified the first week of January and those not selected a week thereafter. So I just have to wait...oh boy!

Yes, it is very doable to work while doing pre-clins. But once you get into the nursing program it's extremely hard to work and do well on clins because of the time commitment needed for clins. One thing I must remind everyone is that school or gov't loans are disbursed upto 30 days AFTER the beginning of the semester. So you must have some contingency plan, savings or something that will get you $ for necessities and rent until you get your first disbursment. Again, after Nur1, then you can re-evaluate working and school at the same time. Some people can and choose to do it. I cannot.

Does anybody know when BMCC finalizes (and notifies) the accepted applicants for nursing clinicals? Also when do they do the lottery for the 2 day sections? I keep calling and getting the run around:uhoh3:. I will just go in person to the office next week when I have more time but I was hoping someone here knew since the anticipation is killing me:uhoh3:. Thanks all!

Just a little sillyness on my part ignore, was just trying to read your post I have worked in several hospitals and I do not like observing the cna's, tech's or any other so called professional medical staff member behaving in such a manner; using bad attitude, etc. It's childish and silly coming from older folks (or really anyone in a professional setting actually). Like mom4josh said, it may be part of a power struggle or it may be envy. Those envying you could really make your life miserable especially if they felt they had the power to do so. Remember being taunted in school for doing the right thing? The "Bad" students were just envious of the "Good" students and so in the spirit of misery-loves-company, they would try to dissuade others from doing the right thing by taunting them and making them feel like they were the ones doing the wrong thing. Don't let them get to you, continue doing the right thing:up:, do your job and hang in there! Hold your head up high, be proud of all you achievements and just know that somewhere, you are being applauded ?

I am going to BMCC and I have quit my job already!! I want to be jobless (sounds funny) when I do Nur1 because it cannot be repeated and I worked soo hard just to get into the program. It's 8 credits just for that one class and I will be taking others as well so I can't afford to work (sounds funny-can't afford to work, lol). I just won't have the time. There is no "forgiveness policy" for Nur1. So I am going to do the loan thing. I am looking to cover my expenses, including rent, tuition, books, travel and food so I will have to take both unsubsidised and subsidised gov't loans. After first semester I'll re-assess and reconsider getting a job but it's unlikely I will work full-time again until after I graduate nursing school. For the most part I just want to focus on my school work. I am tired of rushing from school to work or vice-versa exhausted and mentally drained. I did it for pre-clinicals and that was bad enough. Some people do it and some people just cannot. I am of the latter! I took some time to go to the financial aid office. Sometimes you have specific questions that aren't answered online. I have read and read until I know the in's and out's and I now feel I am ready for a loan so here goes.
