NYU Spring 2008 - page 4

I'm starting clinicals in the spring of 2008 at NYU. Is anyone else applying to NYU or going to start clinicals in the spring? I'm taking the prereqs right now at nyu, so feel free to ask my any questions. You can PM me:spin:... Read More

I got some scholarship money and it helps but it's going to be expensive. It's worth it though. However, I still don't think the education and facilities is worth 36k/yr. People literally have to fight over clinicals. And sadly, since u didn't register for clinicals yet, u're prob gonna end up getting thrown into the Bronx or something. Good luck. =)

That's interesting, kaymin. Can you tell me more about the clinical situation--what's involved in registration, how many hours a week, etc. Where will you be working? I talked to a student starting in January who is worried that she won't get enough hours (seems to be a common concern). Thanks, again.

    Hi Everyone,

I got my acceptance letter today!!!!! I am so excited!! So, I will be seeing you there. Are any of you going to live in campus housing? I just got my letter during my lunch hour and gave my notice at work so it has been a bit of a whirlwind!! If anyone wants to contact me, send a PM

Congrats annnais! I'll be living on campus unfortunately. It seems like such a rip off for the money but I guess it'll be good while getting to know the city. I guess room assignments don't get sent until next week - let me know where you'll be (if you are in fact living in NYU housing). Feel free to PM me too - I'm anna too. Look forward to hearing from you and anyone else starting next month - it's coming up so quick - good luck getting everything together!

    Hi,

Honestly, I think all NYU really cares about is your gpa. At this point it isn't really competitive enough to look at your extracurriculars that much. As long as you surpass everyone else with your gpa, you'll get in. Even during the seminars I had at NYU, they keep bragging about how their GPA and test scores are going up, etc. NYU is really corporate...

As for prereqs or not, I think they would prefer you not to have them, so you would have to take them at NYU and pay them another semester's tuition. It's about luck too, because they can have an opening for prereq classes OR they could have one for 15 month starting.

And I guess I will see you in class next term, suzie hull?

Actually NYU is very good at accepting credits from other schools. I myself took them mostly at SUNY Suffolk Community College and I took Development Psychology at SUNY Online (Herkimer). If you're not sure they'll accept it then just email them with the class description and they'll let you know quick. GPA is important, but not necessarily that high. Get as many as you can at B+ or greater, have an excellent essay on why you want to major in nursing, and have decent recommendations.

Glad I found this thread! I applied to NYU for Spring 2008 and I am still waiting to hear. I called them on Friday and the admissions person said that they "haven't made a decision on my file yet" and that I should hear in roughly two weeks. At least I have finals studying to keep me busy while I wait!!

I am from the San Francisco Bay Area (live in Lafayette) and got my BA in Spanish. I will keep you all posted as to the decision. I hope to be joining you two in New York! We will see.

Hi annais! I'm from the Bay Area also. What made you decide to attend NYU vs. the schools around here? If you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA? I'm currently finishing up my BS degree and have a 3.2 right now but hoping to bring it up to 3.5 by the time I graduate. Plus I still have to finish a bunch of my pre-reqs. Do you have any tips?

    Hi Everyone!

I am just starting this path and already have a ton of questions. First of a little about myself:

Business Administration degree with GPA 2.59, working as a meeting planner at one of the NYC international companies
    Solme volunteer work at ER
    Registered Bone Marrow donor

I understand that my GPA is low and here is my plan ( tell me what you think about it please) - I will register as Non-Matriculated (Non-Degree) Status and will take pre-reqs at NYU, hoping to get all As and Bs and thus get my GPA up.

What do you think about it? Or should I go ahead and try the regular route and apply for 15-month program? I am just very afraid that GPA score will kill me....

Truthfully, your chances are slim. You can't really up your gpa siginificantly enough and the gpa for this incoming term was I think around 3.4 and going higher every term. Definitely do not waste your money taking the prereqs at NYU, take them somewhere else if u must! Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I think I will give it a try...I just tought taking pre-reqs at NYU will show them that I am determined to get into their program.

I wonder how internatinal students with no prior edcation enroll in nursing programs?? They have no GPA, so they are only judged on their grades fo prereqs?
