NYU Spring 2008

U.S.A. New York

Published

I'm starting clinicals in the spring of 2008 at NYU. Is anyone else applying to NYU or going to start clinicals in the spring? I'm taking the prereqs right now at nyu, so feel free to ask my any questions. You can PM me

Thanks! Hope to see some of you in class next term.

Glad I found this thread! I applied to NYU for Spring 2008 and I am still waiting to hear. I called them on Friday and the admissions person said that they "haven't made a decision on my file yet" and that I should hear in roughly two weeks. At least I have finals studying to keep me busy while I wait!!

I am from the San Francisco Bay Area (live in Lafayette) and got my BA in Spanish. I will keep you all posted as to the decision. I hope to be joining you two in New York! We will see.

Hi annais! I'm from the Bay Area also. What made you decide to attend NYU vs. the schools around here? If you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA? I'm currently finishing up my BS degree and have a 3.2 right now but hoping to bring it up to 3.5 by the time I graduate. Plus I still have to finish a bunch of my pre-reqs. Do you have any tips?

Hi Everyone!

I am just starting this path and already have a ton of questions. First of a little about myself:

Business Administration degree with GPA 2.59, working as a meeting planner at one of the NYC international companies

Solme volunteer work at ER

Registered Bone Marrow donor

I understand that my GPA is low and here is my plan ( tell me what you think about it please) - I will register as Non-Matriculated (Non-Degree) Status and will take pre-reqs at NYU, hoping to get all As and Bs and thus get my GPA up.

What do you think about it? Or should I go ahead and try the regular route and apply for 15-month program? I am just very afraid that GPA score will kill me....

Truthfully, your chances are slim. You can't really up your gpa siginificantly enough and the gpa for this incoming term was I think around 3.4 and going higher every term. Definitely do not waste your money taking the prereqs at NYU, take them somewhere else if u must! Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I think I will give it a try...I just tought taking pre-reqs at NYU will show them that I am determined to get into their program.

I wonder how internatinal students with no prior edcation enroll in nursing programs?? They have no GPA, so they are only judged on their grades fo prereqs?

Hi Spring 2008 admits,

I just got a letter in the mail dated January 8, 2008 that I got into the Spring 2008 BSN accelerated program. I just received the acceptance letter Friday, so that gives me only FIVE working days to figure things out before classes start Jan 22! I find it quite unsettling and unfair that I was notified extremely late, especially since I would be moving from San Francisco to New York. I wish I could defer my acceptance to Fall 2008, but I dunno if it's possible. eeks is it worth the stress to go to NYU given that I have only 5 working days to take care of everything!? maybe I should just reapply for Fall 2008, but I'm worried that I won't get in the 2nd time. help!

Wow,

That is not a lot of time! I am from California too and it was tough getting out for me so I cannot even imagine what you must be going through. I just got here on Thursday and have been scoping things out.

NYU does have a clinic where they do walk-in immunizations. So you can get that done here. And I am sure they will offer you help and push back deadlines (I surely hope they do). I think the drop dead date they gave me to get in my immunizations was the 7th o January. And the housing deadline was pushed back also. Wow, good luck with everything! Send me a pm if you want any additional info. Good luck to you!

Hi Rashida,

I think I will be able to register for classes and get my butt to NYU from CA in time for the first day of class Jan 22. I've been rushing to get my tuition $, BLS certification, and Health Clearance in before we begin school. I'll be flying into NY this weekend from SF. I'll see all you Spring 2008 admits this coming Tuesday if all goes well!

Hi,

Wow, so you called and got everything in order with housing? I knew the 'set deadline' for the health clearance was crap... You missed orientation though from what I read... not that it isn't a waste of time... lol

And you'll most likely get a Bronx clinical I think or Brooklyn. But at least you are in!

You need to pick up your name tag after you register and purchase scrubs at the health studies bookstore which is NOT on campus. Keep that in mind.

Let me know if you need any help in NYC

Hi everyone,

I'm also in the 15 month prog but will start in fall since I'm finishing up some pre-reqs this semester at NYU. Just quick question about the clinical placements. Do you get to pick at all or are you just assigned based on availability and random drawing? Appreciate the info.

Leon

For fundamentals, if you register early, you will get to choose which clinical site you want. It was a weird process, first we chose a section based on boro, then later they finally told us which section corresponded to which site and then you can adjust for example between presbyterian or nyu medical.

hey everyone,

I was wondering if you know how strict the criteria is to get into the accelerated program. I am a senior Biology major and my GPA is a 3.32 right now, hopefully by the time I graduate it will be a 3.4. I am finishing up my pre-reqs now and they are mostly B's and some A's. Think I will get in? It makes me nervous not finding out until so close to school starting! Do you know if they have early admissions to the Jan 2009 accelerated program?

Thanks!

I would say you have a pretty good chance of getting in - the avg last term was a 3.4 I think, you would prob be a definite if you were male.
