NYU hiring process

U.S.A. New York

Hello I recently applied for a position at NYU, they sent me an email recently saying to complete an online questionnaire or assessment tool. Is that a good sign? Do I have a good chance of hearing back?

It took me some time to get that email. Are you an experienced nurse or new grad?

Hi DWinNY, how did it go today? :-)

Hi NS81, thanks for checking up on me! My experience today was almost exactly like how bionicRN detailed it at the beginning of this thread. We were a group of around 8-10 new grads and they explained more about the nurse residency program, salary/benefits, etc. Then they administered the dosage calc test (which was easy! don't stress about it, the questions were exactly like the ones from the provided study sheet). Afterwards we each had a brief one on one session with one of the recruiters. The recruiter I met with was super friendly and basically only asked me a few questions: why I went back to school for nursing, how I enjoyed my clinical rotation at NYU, and what unit specialties I was most interested in. The following step is to set each of us up on a second interview with nurse managers, ideally in one of our preferred units. They seem to be moving along the process rather efficiently; I already received an email this afternoon asking about my availability in order to set up a meeting with one of the nurse managers!

Good luck tomorrow!! Everyone we met at the recruitment office was very friendly and they really seem to want to help us be successful along this whole hiring process. Sending you positive thoughts!

Hope everything went well today, NS81!! I'm still anxiously waiting for them to let me know when my scheduled interview with the nurse manager will be :sour:

Hi DWinNY,

Thank you for checking in! I took the exam and you were right it wasn't bad at all! Unfortunately, the recruiter I met with was very rude. It felt like more of an interrogation than an interview. She made me wait an hour for her then had an attitude. She asked me why do I want to leave my current hospital and told me about the hospital and benefits then she asked me about my experience. She then said she will send my résumé to nurse managers and they will email/call me to set up an interview. I was upset afterwards because everyone seemed so nice except her. I currently have a year of experience so she said that I should be getting a call soon. I hope we hear something very soon! (Fingers crossed)

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have such a great experience with the recruiter. Definitely surprising and unfortunate since the people we met with yesterday were so friendly! Nonetheless, that's great that you'll be moving on to interview with nurse managers! Hoping that things will work out for the both of us :) Keep me posted!

I'm glad things are working out for both of you guys. You're in the door. Now all you have to do is ace the interview and i'm sure you guys will receive some offers. Just stay calm, show that you're motivated and willing to work hard, be honest and open and you'll be fine. Things seem to move fast at NYU. As I've been talking to some of the folks in our hire group many received their offers very quickly post interview.

Good Luck guys.

bionicRN, thanks for the words of support and positivity. Much appreciated! Glad to hear it from someone who successfully made it to the other side. Hope you had a great first week at NYU!
