NYU hiring process

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello I recently applied for a position at NYU, they sent me an email recently saying to complete an online questionnaire or assessment tool. Is that a good sign? Do I have a good chance of hearing back?

So the same thing happened with me, when I initially was contacted by the recruiter I still hadn't take the nclex. So that is KEY. Once you take it and contact her back the process should run pretty smoothly. When I took the nclex, I paid for the quick results in 3 days and had let the recruiter I passed my nclex. I believe I got my license in the mail in about 1.5 week after passing.

Did u do rotations at NYU Langone? Or know ppl who work there who have said great things of it?

Ok great, thanks so much for the advice!

And I didn't do rotations at NYU but I have a friend who just finished the residency program. She LOVES NYU and can't say enough good things about it. She says the residency program is really comprehensive and she never once felt like she was being dropped into a situation she wasn't prepared for. She also loves everyone she works with and got really close with the other people that went through the residency with her. Not to mention she said you get great benefits and a competitive salary!

Thats great, i was wondering how the residency program truly is because I don't know anyone who currently works there now & I am a new grad going straight into the ICU. I am not sure how long orientation is or anything yet. I was wondering are you able to ask her what is the exact color scrubs that I am able to wear? I am trying to get them online so I have to buy them in advance and I haven't received info on it.

You are already in contact with the recruiter so you are in good hands, just have to get through the NCLEX and you will.

I'm pretty sure she wears blue scrubs but don't take my word for it. She's really hard to get in contact with cause she's so busy! Maybe a little closer to your start date they will release more info on it!

Hey njngg,

Not sure if you received my private message but any updates for you?! I really hope this all works out for us! I contacted her right after I got my quick results 07/20 and she basically congratulated me and told me if I didn't hear back from anyone by end of the month to contact her ASAP! So to reiterate I told her I would contact her by 28th.

@kl1528sd Congrats on the job and thanks for all the info!! I hope your enjoying it- it's good to know your process ran smoothly I'm just hoping that we will have some luck and it will work out all the same!

For those who applied before taking the NCLEX, do you mind me asking how you put in your resume that you didn't take the NCLEX yet but was about to?

Hi ElleWoods! I did not put it on my resume. All I did was put that I went to school from August 2013-May 2017 and then in the phone interview the recruiter asked if I had taken it yet (I didn't even have a date yet at the time which I told her). I think they basically assume that you're taking it and once you have a phone interview, they'll ask when.

Was anyone told to contact the recruiter in the beginning of September as there are very few new graduate nurse opportunities open now?

Hey KrisSik9921,

I was! I feel better that I am not the only one now. I sent in my resume in mid June, had the successful phone interview and was told to contact my recruiter as soon as I passed my Nclex. I found out i passed my nclex on July 19 and when I told my recruiter she was all happy and said okay if you don't hear fro anyone by end of july please let me know. I waited and kept in contact with her over the last few weeks and she told me on Friday that the new grad openings were limited right now and to wait it out to see what comes about over the next few weeks. If you don't mind me asking what units did you say you were interested in? I said med-surg, step-down, and critical care when I was asked and I guess those areas are pretty limited right now.

Hey Brip,

That makes me feel better too! I just contacted my recruiter yesterday to let her know I passed NCLEX and she too congratulated me but said to get back in touch with her in early September as few new grad opportunities were available. When I spoke with her previously I said I was pretty open-minded unit wise...and mentioned same floors as as you (med surg, step-down, and critical care).

Hi All,

Thank you for all of your insights and tips and tricks. I am a new grad and did many of my clinicals at NYU Langone. I originally signed up at the beginning of June and took the online assessment and have heard nothing back. I am constantly applying to job posts. I'm wondering if I did not pass the assessment and they just haven't let me know. If I didn't, I wish they would put me out of my misery. Also, I graduated with a 3.48, which of course rounded is a 3.5 but I do know if HR will consider it. Any advice, help etc would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. :)
