Hello I recently applied for a position at NYU, they sent me an email recently saying to complete an online questionnaire or assessment tool. Is that a good sign? Do I have a good chance of hearing back?
Hi njngg,
Yayy!! It's so good knowing that we heard similar things lol! yeah thats what I figured hopefully everything will work out for us - it would honestly be such an amazing opportunity! Of course, I was actually going to ask you the same - I'm leaning towards Med Surg, Stepdown, or critical care. For my final clinical I did 200 hours in the SICU/ Surgical Stepdown unit and initially, i thought i wouldn't like it but i ended up LOVING it! I like Med Surg a lot too only because I feel like that is good foundation to learn. What about you?
I've always been a maternal-child health kind of person so I would be happy in L&D, mother/baby, or pediatrics. I think I'm leaning towards L&D at this point but I know its a super hard specialty to get into. The nurse recruiter also said maternal/child is harder to get spots in which I expected so I said med-surg too just for a backup!
yeah L&D is great, I work in a OB office now and it's really nice atmosphere, deff more of a happy area of nursing for the most part lol! But I could see how it would be a little more difficult but you never know! It's deff good you said med-surg too though because even if you have to start out and eventually switch - it will be worth it!
No problem..
So, I submitted my app and not sure when I was contacted exactly but it took less than a month....got called for I guess what you would call a phone interview-more like a screening interview...the week after I got called in by someone else to come in to take the exam and that same day an interview with the recruiter during the morning and the nursing manager that afternoon....Didn't get interviewed for multiple floors just one.
Where are you in the process?
Can I ask how long it took between taking your NCLEX and actually getting your license? The website says it takes approximately 6 weeks. I just scheduled my NCLEX (yay!) and I will be taking them on July 11th. Now I'm not so sure I'll be eligible for the August start date if there is this six week gap AND I would have to switch licensure states as I applied for licensure in NJ!

Hi brip!
I'm so glad everything went well!!!! :) Sounds like our conversations went similarly, she also said I would be able to be a part of the August orientation if selected!
I think everyone did their drug calculation tests either when they went in for an interview or at the new grad residency open house thing. Since it doesn't sound like they're doing the open house, maybe we would just do it prior to our first in-person interviews (whenever/if that happens LOL) like next month.
Just wondering, what specialties are you interested in? I'm always curious to see what kind of nursing other people want to go into :)
