Hello I recently applied for a position at NYU, they sent me an email recently saying to complete an online questionnaire or assessment tool. Is that a good sign? Do I have a good chance of hearing back?
Hi,
I came across this thread when I did a search online . I did the nurse career battery test a few weeks ago but haven't gotten any type of response. I applied for a few positions online. I'm not a new grad, I've been out of school for 6 years and have been working in a non hospital setting . I'm not sure if that's the reason I'm not getting any response from HR or if I did something wrong on the battery test. I made one misktake when taking it and accidentally hit next after somehow selecting the strongly disagree to a behavioral question that should have been either Agee or strongly agree dumb mistake. I've been having the hardest time getting any interviews for any job in the hospital and it is so frustrating. I pray something turns up soon because that is really where I would like to work.
I just wanted to say thanks for all those that posted. You've all given great advice, especially to someone who isn't expericed at interviews.
Hi HelenRN88, BSN, RN
I was hoping you might be able to clarify a few questions about the interview process for NYU Langone. So I recently graduated ( May of 2017) and have already scheduled my nclex date which I'll be taking in July. I was looking for positions online and came across full time New may 2017 Grad Rn positions at NYULMC and I decided to give it a shot since I have always loved the hospital!! Surprisingly, after sending in my cover letter, resume, and transcript 2 days ago - I received an email earlier this morning from a nurse recruiter stating that they received my resume and would like to speak over the phone at some point next week so i provided my availability. Now I'm just a little confused about this career battery test that everyone is talking about. Right after I sent in my application I received an automated test of about 100 questions asking me a bunch of different personality questions, what would you questions and so on. It felt like a psych exam lol! Is that test the career battery test?

Hi brip! I'm a new grad as well and basically have had the same timeline as you regarding NYULMC and the new grad program. That was the career battery test! Definitely was an interesting assessment haha
Hi njngg,
That's so awesome! Congrats on graduating! I'm glad that someone is in the same boat as me. I figured that might have been the career battery test because of the questions. I was contacted by email on Friday afternoon and messaged the recruiter back and said i was available by phone to speak today 11 or after. I still didn't get a call yet and I am kinda freaking out because i feel like this is an awesome opportunity for us as new grads. Have you heard back yet from a recruiter by phone? Hope it went well :)

Congrats to you too!! I actually spoke to the recruiter on Friday last week and she was super nice so don't worry about it. Just basic questions like "why NYU" and what specialties I was interested in. I unfortunately don't have a date for NCLEX yet because my school graduates a little late so at the end she told me to contact her once I have a date set in place and she would speak to the managers of the units that I said I was interested in. Overall sounded promising!
Let me know how your conversation goes, I'm sure she'll call soon!
Sounds great!! I would not worry at all if I were you especially because the position is for New Grads, I'm sure all of us are still waiting to take the exam! I recently got my ATT and I graduated May 21 so hopefully yours will be coming soon too. Did she take a few days to contact you back or ever respond to your email? She asked for a time Monday or Tuesday back on Friday so i mentioned being available today from 11 and anytime after as well as being able to arrange a time no problem on Tuesday if needed, I'm making myself overthink and getting nervous that maybe she didn't receive me email! But I feel more calm knowing she seems pleasant and it went well - I'll definitely let you know how it goes!
She first contacted me Friday (6/3) and asked for my availability for the following Thursday/Friday (which was last week) and I told her either day was fine and whatever time worked for her. She did follow up with another email and gave me a specific time on Friday. The only thing I can think of is maybe it got lost in her email box over the weekend but maybe give it the rest of the day and just follow up with her tomorrow if there was no call.
I'm sure everything is fine, I think all of us new grads are just balls of nerves when it comes to interviews! :)
haha yes, your totally right! By any chance do you happen to know about how the residency works - I know it is 1 year long...but Is it 12 hr shifts? I see on the job requisition and application it says 9 am - 5 pm variable shifts but than i was also wondering about the locations and if we are placed by them if offered the position.
Yeah the website is kinda weird and vague about what the program entails but I have a friend who is just now finishing up the residency and she told me a little bit about it. She said its split between time with your preceptor on the floor and time in the classroom (learning skills, simulation labs, etc.). I think she started on days (like kinda 9-5) for the first bit of the residency just for orientation purposes and classroom stuff but she is now on nights on her unit and I think most (if not all) new grads will go to night positions. She's also on 12 hour shifts.
The recruiter asked for my preferences of floors but basically told me that its based on openings. There is an orientation once a month, and nurse recruiters hear what floors have openings and will put you in spots for interviewing based on that. My friend said that her unit has had about 8 new graduates and she's been there for about a year. I'm not sure how it works like which NYU hospital we're placed at though.
My friend LOVES it at NYU and HIGHLY recommends it! I hope that helped a little!!!
Hi njngg,
I had my phone interview today and you were right, the recruiter was super nice and I am positive that all went well. I provided her with my NCLEX date and she said that I had to contact her a week before my NCLEX. She told me the orientation class for July is July 10 so since my Nclex is after that date, I would be a candidate for the August orientation class. I remember you said your friend is just finishing up the residency or maybe you asked, but I did see some of the earlier posts saying something about a pharm exam......Do you know anything about that? But than again, a lot of the earlier posts seem different than our timeline, Like we already had the career battery test and a phone interview, the earlier posts seems to have gotten the career battery test later.

They email you a link where you have to enter some personal/private information (any crimes, court history, other names, last 10 years addresses etc) then the 3rd party organization runs the background check on you. I remember I got back the result in few weeks during their busy time. No fingerprinting lol
