NYU hiring process

U.S.A. New York

Hello I recently applied for a position at NYU, they sent me an email recently saying to complete an online questionnaire or assessment tool. Is that a good sign? Do I have a good chance of hearing back?

Hellosmile, thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it. I believe there were calculators available, but I didn't use one. You wouldn't need it, but bring one along nonetheless in case you need it and they don't have one available. Real basic dosage calculation questions, but review each question thoroughly before you submit. One more thing about your prospective interview, I guarantee you will impress any Nurse Manager you interview with if you make it a point to stress your priority to optimize patient safety, provide patient and family focused care (organizational culture). For the sake of Nursing, I hope you share those same values. AND Remember to provide clinical examples :)

qriousRN: Thank you so much for all your awesome advice!! you are so nice and helpful :) I'll make sure to stress patient focused care and safety. Hope orientation is going great for you!

Hello! I just applied for the Nurse Residency program at NYU Langone. I was told to just apply for any open position. How has this worked for previous applicants who got hired? Should I keep applying? Or just keep calling them to follow up on my resume / cover letter?? I have a 3.669 GPA do you think this is high enough? What can I do to get an itnerview???!! Any info would be great!

JLB1215, one of my earlier posts has a detailed outline of my NYU timeline.. At this point, I have heard so many different stories from other New Grad hires and the one consistent thing is PERSEVERANCE, so keep applying each and every day for those open positions and be on the look out for Open House events, very important. Your GPA is high enough, so keep applying and yes, call the recruitment office often to follow up as well. GOOD LUCK!

This thread has been so helpful!

I currently work in an outpatient pediatric floor but want to go into inpatient nursing. I emailed a few nurse recruiters last month and heard back quickly for a position on the NICU floor at NYU. I met with the nurse recruiter as well as the PICU nurse manager about 3 weeks ago. Sadly, I did not get the NICU position but the nurse manager recommended me for the general peds floor. The nurse recruiter placed me on the wait list and also asked me to have 5 references complete an online skill survey.

Now I am still waiting to hear back from the nurse recruiter. Anyone else have this happen to them? How long did it take to hear back again? I emailed the nurse recruiter again this week to follow up and have yet to hear from her. Still crossing my fingers.

That's awesome! That has not happened to me but that sounds good thought. how did you get the recruiter contact those are usually hard to find. But good work!!

Hi everyone,

I found this thread so helpful, especially qriousRN's detailed experience.

qriousRN would you mind sharing what your experience was like during orientation at NYU?

Any tips for new grads starting orientation soon?

How is the work environment and culture at NYU?

If you will be starting orientation soon, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Orientation was superb. Mix of classroom, EMR training, skills lab, clinical hours etc. It slightly varies depends on what unit you were hired for. Of course the clinical section is the most important but you need the other components to be ready. Your experience will depend on your preceptor. The work environment is very supportive. I received a lot of support from my designated nurse educator, preceptor and peers. Everyone was willing.. GOOD LUCK! And maybe we'll link up one day ;)

acpedsRN, I have heard about people waitlisted. As long as the Nurse Manager RECOMMENDED you for that position, you are golden. Keep in touch with the recruiter! GOOD LUCK!

hello. these posts have been extremely helpful so thank you for everyone who has commented here. I recently interviewed with recruitment at nyu (about two weeks ago) and was told the next step would be to see availability of managers who may want to interview with me. I have called recruitment and have not received an answer about the interview yet. I was recently offered a position at another facility and am expected to sign papers next week if i want the position. i would really love to work in NYU since NYU is my first choice but I also dont want to miss my opportunity to start working as an RN. Any helpful advice on what to do or say to NYU?

Hi qriousRN. You mentioned that you are in cardiothoracic surgery. Did you interview with the OR nurse managers/ director? Also would you know how often is NYU doing orientations now for new nurses?

Thanks :)
