Hi guys, I applied for the new grad program at NYP and got an email saying that because I didn't list a preference for a specialty, I'd be put on the waiting list and the people on the waiting list will be contacted before NYP posts anymore positions for new grads. Did anyone else get on the waiting list and actually get an interview? If so, how long did it take for you to get an interview?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I just want to know to whom did you address the cover letter which you sent to NYP when you applied for the newly graduate nurse program? Also, how long after you sent the application did you receive the reply from NYP?

I didn't address the cover letter to anyone. I just wrote to whom it may concern, and i applied like everyone else. i applied about 10 times in the past 6 months. all i got were reject emails saying i hadn't been selected. The last time I applied i heard from them within a week.

They may be referring to the fact that you are supposed to include your top two specialties along with your top two preferable locations in your cover letter when you apply online (there are 5 locations). A lot of hospitals are waiting to interview after graduation and you have a set date for the NCLEX, some won't even offer you a job until you have passed. In reality, as a May grad you can't start working until late June, early July so for them to hire you now for an open position they're left without a nurse for two months.

I applied to a certain program so it's much different but I know people applying to the entire new grad pool and they were told they would get interviews in late May so don't give up hope! It's not uncommon these days to graduate without a secure position yet.

I know someone who was just offered a position at Mount Sinai so look into applying there also. NYU isn't hiring right now but is looking to later in the summer I believe. I also got an interview at MSK, if you're interesting in oncology definitely apply there. Just put yourself out there and follow up on resumes you send out if you have a contact email. Good luck!

I've already graduated and I have my license already. I need to be hired ASAP. I have a connect at Mount Sinai and couple of leads so I'm just waiting for things to fall into place. Hopefully wherever I end up will be a great place for me. Thanks!

Oh and even as a May grad, they usually don't take their nclex until august and september. it takes longer to process the apps because more people graduate in may than in january. i don't know anybody that graduated in may and took their nclex in june or july. the july takers got lucky and got a date like in the last days of july (27-31) which means by the time you get your results, it's basically august.

Really? My school must rush that stuff out cause most grads from previous years have taken it late june or very early july since we normally start working mid july or mid august. They send out our papers the day after graduation so we can get our ATT asap. Not that I'm looking forward to that exam at all :p hahah

The only people who start working that quickly are the people with connects. unfortunately most people don't have connects and it ends up taking them 6-8 months to find a job. That's terrible. I hope things get better some day.

Hey I second the question about MSK. Their website has next to no jobs up, are they hiring? I talked to a nurse from there who said they liked new grads, but I can't find any information. I talked to HR and they said to just submit a resume to nurse recruitment, but that seems a bit like a shot in the dark. What did you do?

Re: MSKCC on their website you can set up a profile and submit a resume to HR without applying to a particular job.

Also, when I graduated in early June '08, my school sent our info out right after graduation and I took the nclex early July, some in my class even took it at the very end of June. When you get your ATT depends on how quickly your school sends out the information.

I feel NYP is all about connections. I applied about 15 times over a period over a year and I recieve the generic reject letter. About a year ago a friend applied for a job at NYP, she had a very nice cover letter and a resume that said she had 20 years experience. We applied for the same job at the same time, she recieve the same rejection letter stating there looking for someone with more experience.
