U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi,

I'm a new grad and would like to know how to get NYC license(RN) by endorsement if i already hold a license from another state..thanks..

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Just follow requirements for Endorsement on the NY BON website

http://www.op.nysed.gov/nurse3.pdf I think is the form you need

Hiya BooBoo,

actually NY is a stickler on the process. I not only had to fill out Form I, the application, but had to take an online mandatory Child Abuse certification course that my old state did NOT require and send proof of completion after the exam.

Then I had to send in a form to my Nursing School requesting that they fill it out and submit to NY Dept of Educ for proof of my education

AND also a 3rd form from the NY BON stating that I actually did sit for, pass, and am actually licensed in another state. This had to be sent to my first state BON and then submitted w/ request to forward also to the NYS Dept of Education.

The process took a lot of tracking numbers and a lot of follow- up phone calls.

Good luck and PM me if you have any questions!!

I am working on this now. I've sent out all the forms months ago and it seems the NY board keeps losing them or misplacing them. I'm beginning to think I'll end up a greeter at walmart just to have a job! Is this the usual for the NY board?

Featherz,

I hope you made copies before you mailed anything. Better yet, sent w/ signature or return receipt? Worst case scenario if you did, is to resend them. You should have received a cancelled check by now. No, it should not take this long at all. 6 weeks max!! Perhaps it's the time of year and they are being inundated with graduates, but that's no excuse on their part.

My :twocents: is to use your copy to resubmit w/ tracking numbers and hound them w/ phone calls daily once you see through the tracking numbers on http://www.usps.gov that they've arrived and been signed for. Be nice, but firm. Get the name of every person you speak with and time stamp your call. Then continue to call until your results are in. NY will not post your license online until they have rec'd all documents and verified each and every part of the form.

Good luck!!

Problem is that the paperwork they keep losing is the paperwork that HAS to come from other people - the two nursing boards and my school transcripts. they won't accept that directly from me.. My application they definitely have, but the verifications that I can't send in are the ones that I have nothing to do with (and yes, I have proof I sent them and that the agencies received them and cashed my check).

Funny thing is my school is Regents (now excelsior) - they are right down the street from the boards! :) (and regents has been extremely helpful).

The plot thickens. Yesterday they had the paperwork from my school but not the paperwork from one of the states. Today they have the state paperwork but not the one from my school. It's getting hilarious. :)

It's sounding familiar Featherz! Keep hounding. My last week of phone calls to the NY Dept of Educ was to hound because my tracking number showed a signature, date, and proof that my 2nd copy of papers had indeed arrived. Their explanation for the delay was that it was prob downstairs in their basement mailroom and just hadn't made it up to their floor yet.

When I offered to come down personally (a 10 mins walk as I had already relocated to NY by this time), to rifle through their mailbags, they had no idea how serious I really was!!!

Would you believe it took a week for that last document to make it from their basement to their 2nd floor?

Well, nevada says they sent my form out on 4/28 so it's gotta be in that mailroom by now! I finally got email confirmation that we have one state + education in now. So it's up to that form from Nevada to make it from the mailroom. I live only a few miles from there so if I have to I'm gonna go offer to rifle through the mailroom also. Great idea. . Is it quick once they finally admit all the forms are in?

Yep! sounds familiar. LOL. Yes, it is hours, perhaps a day, to see your results online if you hound them as often as I was. Heck, by the time I was done, I was on a first name basis w/ Dept of Educ folks and they were calling me!! And yes, it was down to that last document.

The irony of it all, was that it was all for "official" documentation if you think about it. Because it was the doc from my school that the NY Dept of Educ was holding up my life for. And there's no way I could have sat for NCLEX in the first place in my prior state without it! DUH! So I was just plain INCENSED by the irony, stupidity, cost, and limbo it was costing me. But persistence really did pay off.

You gotta let us know when it happens for you Featherz!

Heh, my school was easy (once they admitted they had it) since I went to Excelsior and they are just across the freeway from each other. Plus excelsior was very helpful and called over there to make SURE they finally had it. And California (where my current license is) was quick at sending the paperwork, but NY did not acknowledge they had it for two months? What we are waiting on is verification of a Nevada license that has been lapsed since 1990. :p

Also, there's a person with my exact same name (including middle initial) that has a NY license but she's been licensed since the 70's and lives in another state, so I know it's not me. I keep getting excited when I check the website, but it's just her again. :)

I'll call again on Monday for status. I am sure by then that Nevada will have come in but California will have gone missing. :)

Again Featherz, I can relate. I kept looking at the NYS BON every few hours too, and only saw my mom's name! And she's been retired ("inactive") for decades!!!

What brings you fr CA to NY btw?

Keepin fingers crossed that time is on your side!
