I posted this for another with a similar q: It may be a long search or a short one for your first job depending. I may have made life tough for myself post-grad/licensure by looking far and wide rather than in my own back yard. Go with the network you have to land your first job. I think after you get experience 1-2 years it will be much easier to find jobs through the posts online. But don't waste your time. I probably sent in somewhere between 100-200 app's during 10 months of fruitless searching until I landed a job through a friend and his family contact at a psych hospital. In fact I got the job offer as I was filling out the application! It can be brutal for new grads right now as you probably know. Lesson learned: start from where you are and who you know.

You are absolutely right. Trying to use whatever network I have and making some by doing volunteer work once a week. I did door to door resume today and most of the people told me to go on their website and apply there. Which I already did couple of weeks ago. Thank you for the info. Let me know if you have any friends working in NYC and if there are any job openings they know. Sorry if I asked something personal. Thank you.

Yes I did. Thank you. I work at Kings Harbor Nursing home in the Bronx. They do hire new grads occasionally and have 4 weeks orientation which is better than other nursing homes around NYC. They usually hire through agencies since they have a contract but I know couple of people who got hired when they applied in person. It's a 720 bed nursing home and decent environment and people to work with. Everyone helps you out and makes sure you feel comfortable. Good luck with your graduation. Best wishes.

I'm so happy for you. Congrats. Thanks so much. It is good that you work with a team that is willing to help you out since you are new.. Are you working nights, per diem? I heard that most places do not allow new grads to work at night.

    Hey Guys!

I graduated in June of 2011 and recieved my license in Aug of that year.
If you are in NYC and feel comfertable with traveling to the Bronx you might want to try Montefiore. You will have to be persistant with your applications but I was able to get hired in March of this year. It seems long but I feel like you never know what time will bring you so you migh as well send the applications.

Just one bit of advice with Montefiore, they are very strict and can be nit-picky but it is a great way to bulk up your resume and move on.

    Good Luck!
