Hello

Some of the NY hospital seems to hire only NY educated nurses (like nypresbyterian), is it truth?

What hospitals in Manhattan hired foreign nurses (I did my nursing school in France)? I really would like to stay away from agencies!!

What is the best way to get a contact (and a job!!!!) ( fax, job fair, register online on hospital websites)?

Thanks for your help,

Hyacinthe

I have met nurses from South America, Asia and Euro right here in New York.

Do you have a work permit??

If the answer is "NO," then it is hard for you to get a job. In this case, some agencies might have to sponsor you.

The best way to contact is from your friends, if not, you have to get the info from magazines, job fair, and hospital websites.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply, I do have an EAD.

But I was a bit suprised to read on the websites of some hospital that you have to be educated in NYS!

I know that lots of nurses from Philippine are employed here but there education has been made in english.

I'm going to try to apply to nypresbyterian, mount sinai, lenox and sloan and we'll see the answers i will have!

Do you know if nypresbyterian hire foriegn nurse because that's the hospital I woul really work in?

Hi Hyacinthe!

I had a friend who could not get an EAD, and she told me if had it, there is a hospital which could sponsor her.

I am not so sure if nurses have to be educated in NYS, inasmuch as I have met nurses from California and other parts of the country.

You are applying a job in all these "big shot" names..will you be able to take a job in some other hospitals which are less famous. Once you have the experience, you can always go somewhere. The most important thing is to get in and once you are in...you can always go somewhere from there.

One last thing...We have 3 nurses from South Korea...their education were not taught in English. But they are employed by an agency , they signed the contracts...most of these agency nurses, when the contracts expired, they will move on, and look for jobs in other hospitals.

I am not so sure if NYP will hire foreign nurses!!!

Hi chuck1234!!

thanks for your fast reply, I was actually looking at those ones because I'm living on the upper east side.

I wanted to try theses ones first and I thought that bigger hospitals also mean more positions to fill..but I might try smaller ones before and move from there as you said!!

As for the agencies, I would prefer to avoid!! as I already did everything by myself(CGFNS, BON) but if no hospital reply, I will have to go that way!!

Do you have any idea about where I could apply?

I will have to ask my co-workers.

But I am not going to see them until this Friday or Saturday....

In the mean time, try to place your resume on line then.

When I say "big shot" hospital, I don't mean they are big...I was trying to say those are private and well known hospitals.

I work at NYP and they have an emplyment office on York Ave and 74th or 75th. You will see it. They hold open interviews for nurses. It's work a try.

Kim

thank you for your answers!

I actually work next door to the nyp employment office as a P/T school nurse for the french high school, so thanks for the advice, I'm gonna try it tomorrow! Any advice on what to say during the interview?

I also placed my resume on several hospitals websites, I really hope something is going to work,

No just bring your resume. They ask typically hiring questions. You meet with a recruiter who tells you what is available and then forwards you/resume to nurse manager to meet with. Let me know how it goes
