Easier to get a CNA job in NY hospitals if you are a Nursing Student?

Yes, i think so. I'm a home health aide myself (hopefully starting the lpn program in the fall) and its easier to deal with one patientwhile in school than 10-12 patients in one shift. you should be able to find work now since you now have experience working in the home health field. Good luck

I got my CNA license in November with no previous healthcare experience, only office work. I sent my rsume to many nursing homes and a few hospitals, with ABSOLUTELY no phone calls for an interview. Many places ask for at least 6 months experience. In January, I decided to get a job as a home health aide (loving it!). But I still want to work as a CNA in a hospital (1st choice) or a nursing home. Now that I know for sure that I will be starting nursing school this fall, will it better my chances of getting a job as a CNA? Any suggestions?

Our hospital LOVES nursing students as aides! MUCH less likely to hear "I won't do that" or "Why do I have to do that, shouldn't the nurse do it?". My nurse manager (who hires aides) has said that too many of our 'career techs' find ways of getting out of work, whereas the students who work as aides in school are always looking for MORE work.

You decide if they get hired fast :)

Just curious? What did you think of the CNA class did you find it difficult? I'm signing up for one in the next three weeks because I want to take the class in hopes that it will help me with nursing school clinical?

The school that you attended for the CNA class did they offer job placement as well or is that just a farce?

the school offered job assistance, but they pretty much just referred you to agencies...no help there, since the agencies only pay $7-$8/hr....I didn't find the class difficult at all

I could PM you the name (I don't like the idea of putting it on the board) but I *think* from your other posts you're in NYC now? I'm a couple/few hours outside (not commutable distance), so not a good bet for you while you're in school. I was mostly speaking generally, rather than as a specific option. I'm sorry if I gave that impression, my mistake. If I'm mistaken, and you ARE in my area, I'd be happy to clue you in :)
