Concordia College - NY -2013

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi All,

I just sent off my application for Accelerated Nursing program at Concordia College for the fall of 2013. I'm really excited and nervous. I saw the thread for the fall 2012 was quite active and a few would-be 2013 students had posted to that one so I thought I should start a new one.

Anyway, I would LOVE to hear from any posters on the 2012 thread about how their experience has been going, anyone who is finished with the program, and anyone who is applying like me!

Thanks!!

I did the same thing FutureCPN. I was accepted to NYU for last Spring. I actually paid the deposit and then chickened out at the last minute due to the impending debt. They graciously rolled my application over to the Fall, but said that it would be a new applicant pool so they couldn't guarantee admission. I happened to find out about Concordia a few weeks later and applied. I was accepted to NYU again but I am 95% sure that I will go to Concordia. I'm just still weighing all of my options. I am in a different position than most though. I have 10 & 12 year old honor students that I need to send to college in just a few years. So, I need to be a bit more conservative. I feel like if I go to NYU... I am gambling with their college fund. The big name is soooo tempting though. If I was 25 and kid-less, I would probably think differently :) From what I can tell, Concordia has a higher NCLEX pass rate, and employment rate though... so I don't think either is a bad decision. My personal situation will more than likely have me in a study group with all of you in this fall though ;)

@ginamarie .. You should loo into scholarships through nyu if that's what u choose. I got an academic scholarship and it ends up being about the same price as NYU.. Maybe you will get something too?

I mean the same price as concordia

To all of those who still have not heard, I spoke to admissions today and was told that those who have been rejected would have received a response by now and if not we are placed on a waitlist. The waitlist letters will be sent out on Friday.

I wonder how many people actually go to another school. Concordia is 15 min from where I live! But I'm on the wait list. Sigh....

tonimariep - If you don't mind me asking, how much was the scholarship that you received from NYU? I also received a scholarship and was curious if it's just routine.

Hopefulapplicant .. Most likely it is just routine to give a little incentive! lol but It came to a little over 5g a semester.. Was yours the same?

The scholarship must be routine because I received the same as well.

I just paid my deposit for Concordia. I'm excited!!! I can breathe a little now and just enjoy the spring and summer until school begins. @accelbsn12 what's in the medical packet?

@futurecpn do you know the approximate date to when the program starts?

At the interview the professor said the third week of August, but I'm not sure of the date.

@FutureCPN' The medical packet is just the regular stuff for a physical. You need the titers for Varicella, Hep ( A &C), and other information. Basically just making sure you can physically get through clinicals without any medical emergencies an that your vaccinations are up to date. Also the waiver for the meningitis vaccine and for the TB exam. I am getting mine done now since I need a physical for work anyways. Just killing two birds with one stone.

@kjoseph- Classes begin on 8/26. Orientation is on 8/22 & 23. I got these dates from our trusty admissions counselor ( who shall remain unnamed) last week. Hope that helps. He also told me that the program is completed on 12/5/2014 for anyone who wants to know.

tonimariep - Unfortunately, mine isn't as much... I received just under $4k a semester. I called NYU and they said it's merit and need based and they won't consider increasing the amount originally given unless you can prove a change in financial status. I am unsure what will happen in the summer - hopefully the scholarship applies then as well. My package only included this Fall and Spring, no mention of Summer. Does anyone have more information on summer scholarships?
